Hey everyone! Not sure anyone cares but figured maybe it'll help someone with towing if anyone comes across. First off, this truck is awesome! Now.... (On mobile sorry for typos and cant see signatures anymore)...
2023 RAM 1500 BH 5.7 V8 HEMI. 4x4, 6'4 bed, Crew Cab, 3.21 gears (didnt think id be doing well in life enough to own toys big/heavy enough so didnt care for getting the 3.92 gears and settled. I was mistaken. That's the only thing I wish I would have done different with this truck but still love it and great) Truck has leveled at 2.2" Bilstien 6112 spring and strut assembly with 5100 shocks in the rear on Toyo OC AT3s 35x11.5r20.
Finally doing well in life and was about to buy a dream boat of mine for our family! 03 Eliminator Eagle 260 xp. Got a smoking deal on it and drove from Arizona to Illinois, including the two states i drove through 8 states (AZ, NM, TX, OK, KS, MO, IA, IL) to pick it up with the truck. Trip was roughly 3,600 miles round trip. Going there i got my normal 15-16mpg up, left Thursday/Friday midnight, drove 24 hours and 28 minutes straight non stop (drive time) except stops for gas and restroom. Arived at hotel friday/saturday at 2am. Saturday morning in llinois picked up the boat. Was a longer trip home, drove straight through again non stop 28hours, left the dealer at 1130am on saturday morning and got back home to Arizona Sunday at roughly 330pm. Boat is ~4,100ibs dry and trailer is ~1,700ibs. So ~5,800 just towing. I am almost 52ft long with truck and trailer total. In the truck was just me by myself plus tools, jack, and my backpack with clothes. Truck did absolutely fantastic. I got on average 9mpg. Bounced between 8-10mpg depending on hills and downgrade. The trucks best friend was 6th and 7th gear the entire time. When in 6th and 7th cruising I'd run at about 2000-2300rpm the whole time. Hit 5th going uphills and 8th down hills here and there. Towing at roughly 65mph on avg. Was able to make it home safely with the truck and boat. This truck had absolutely no hiccups, and didn't skip a beat. Great truck and can do the damn thing for for sure. Due to sag, I recently added the Timbrens (SKU# DR1500DQ) to help and doing that was awesome and helped a ton as it felt a tad light upfront. After that "upgrade" i felt like a breeze towing and forgot it is even back there at times.
(yes I know most of yall daily your trucks so the ride is rough with Timbrens. I did extensive research especially on here between these, sumosprings and bags. While all may be good choices, wasnt intrested in bags as its another part to fail and didnt want to deal with the hassle as youll hear my next point, and sumosprings i felt timbrens beat them just on research again to my next point.....My truck sits..... alot. Bought it brand new in 2023 and truck it only had 9600 miles when I left to pick up the boat. I never turn my truck on unless I'm hauling my quads/dirtbikes, towing my small jet boat, or now towing this beast bc we have two other vehicles to drive, so the rough ride I'll never really feel when the truck is dry. Maybe just the 20 mins to storage to pick up the toys and even then, I don't feel it much as it's flat all the way there.) That said just want to report this for anyone wondering for towing/weight with similar truck and gear to let them know this truck did fantastic and couldn't be happier putting this thing to the test like that and that far. Time to enjoy many years to come with it and with the new boat. Also
when on the plains and flats again even before the timbrens id forget it was back there. On take off obviously and breaking is when you really felt the weight, thanks to the triple axle trailer and surge brake it helped a ton im sure. But again absolutely loving this truck!
