I have to change out the drivers side CV axle again (remanufactured one from the dealer blew up - grease everywhere). I can't seem to get the dust cover to "seat" over the seal on the differential. It just kind of lays there, and periodically it will make noise (rattling, scraping). I can't seem to get it to seat properly and stay in place. This is what I'm talking about:

All the best,
Glenn

What I'm calling a dust cover is also identified as an "Oil Slinger" in some diagrams I'm looking at. I think.
All the best,

Has anyone replaced one of these?

Did you have any luck getting it to stay installed? I couldn't tell how it was secured but after finding this video it looks to be a press fit to the differential shaft.

The video is of a 2019 classic DS but I suspect the design didn't change that much for a DT.
timestamp of 18:25 or so.

If it isn't slipping on that boss here are a few ideas:
- Heat soak the dust cover in the oven for a bit. I would try 300 degrees at first then lightly tap it on with a deep well socket that fits. Don't burn yourself please. The socket would be a big one so might be more cost effective to use a cut down metal pipe like EMT conduit of the right size. The key is to tap it on square. If it gets ****ed it won't slide on.
- Cold soak the short shaft from the differential. You can try it while installed with a "cold spray": Amazon.com: MicroCare MCC-FRZA - Anti Static Freeze Spray (Circuit Chiller), 10 oz Aerosol : Patio, Lawn & Garden. Or using dry ice in a cup placed over the shaft.

I imagine it might be tricky to get the depth right so it doesn't rub against the differential when spinning.
Just a few ideas to try. Good luck

35 mm axle nut socket attached to several long 1/2” extensions and smacked with a rubber mallet a few times seated it perfectly.
All the best,
Glenn
