Bought a new 25 longhorn limited. Multi function tail gate stopped opening when I went to pick it up. Had the dealership try to fix it where I bought it but they couldn’t fix it by the time I had to leave to head back home (9 days) Now I brought it to another dealership back home to get the same issue fixed. The service department had to open up a STAR case to speak with the engineers about the tailgate. It’s been 14 more days now at the current dealership with no truck. Anything I can do or recommendations?

I am having the same issue with a newly purchased 2025 Bighorn. Service department also supposedly in contact with the engineers. Service Department had my truck for a day and a half last week when I still had my previous truck. I took the 2025 in again today, but will only leave it for the day until they find a solution. I will take it back anytime they notify me they have a fix or want to replace the entire tailgate, but I need the truck for transportation. Has your issue been resolved?

Feel you pain. Please update when information comes in. I am having issues also. I had it open a couple of times and now fully stopped working. Dealer will look at in about 3 weeks time as they are busy.

Hello!

So an update on this:

After 3 weeks total of my truck being in the shop, they finally figured it out after comparing it with another model. They told me that the issue is the latch itself. They ordered the part but it’s currently on back order so whenever it comes back in stock they will let me know. How long will that be? I have no clue. So as of right now I just can’t open the split gate. I can can still lower and raise the normal tailgate

There is at least one other thread on this topic, you might want to search for that thread to glean info from it.
.
But it would help a lot if you actually described the symptoms. Are you specifically talking about the "barn door" opening mode, or the traditional drop-down mode? Is it mechanically jammed or electronically dead? By that I mean, when you push on the latch, do you hear it click? Or when you push on the latch you hear nothing at all?
.
Be as specific as you can, generalized statements aren't much help.
.
EDIT: Here's the other thread I was recalling: Power Tailgate not opening

Just bought a 2025 Ram 1500 Laramie with the MFT, however never got the “barn door” to open.
Keep on pressing the lever down but it doesn’t seem to be attached to anything. Traditional drop down mode works so at least can still use the bed.

Just the swinging 60-40 doors. When pressing the handle to open the "barn doors" there is nothing...no sound no resistance, nothing. Regular tailgate works fine.

Interesting. Can you tell me which Dodge dealership you went to? I would like my dealership to contact them. Hopefully it will speed things along. Thanks in advance.

I suggest you read this post, and perhaps a few related posts after that one, and see if that helps at all. A bit of a hassle, but it costs you nothing to give it a try. Power Tailgate not opening

I've been reading everything I can about multi-function tailgate issues, although I have been focusing on more recent posts versus those from 2020. I know Ram had a tailgate recall in 2023 so I find the posts about 2025 Rams, like mine, more helpful as I suspect this is a more recent issue than those that occurred prior to the recall.

Tailgate won't open and you let 2 dealers hold your truck for over 3 weeks? Why? Tell them you are taking your truck home and have them call you when they get the parts they needed. It's not a safety issue and there is no valid reason for them to hold the truck. If it took them more than a day to troubleshoot a tailgate, I would have picked it up at the end of the day and found a more competent dealer.

Whatever you think. I will tell you, though, these trucks are computers on wheels, and they do require rebooting at least occasionally by removing 12 V battery ground. The advice in that other post on rebooting the computer gear and allowing updates to progress normally to completion, reset memory registers, etc. is valid for all years of the 5th-gen DT platform trucks. Regardless of whether your latches are electronically dead and make no sound at all, or whether the dashboard is displaying all kinds of warnings, learning how your truck likes to be fully "reset" will save you trips to the dealer over the years.
.
If it's not clearly a mechanical issue like grinding or popping or going clunk or squealing, the smart thing to do is electronically clear/reset the vehicle's various control modules and memory locations before running to the dealer. Sometimes simply turning the vehicle off, waiting five minutes and restarting it will clear the error/warnings. But when that doesn't work, disconnecting the 12 V battery ground and following the suggestions in the other posts may well save you a trip to the dealer. But as I said, up to you how you want to handle your truck's problems.

I just bought a 25’ Laramie and most of the time my power tailgate opens but then closes automatically. I see nothing that would cause that to happen. Sometimes I’ll get the 3 beeps. Anyone else experiencing this?

Just a thought..there is a electrical pass-through connection port for the MF tailgate wiring harness that is located centrally below the tailgate..between the bumper and bed..maybe check that they are fully seated/connected???

Also, as discussed here before, when I first got my previous 2023 Ram, I hadn't closed the larger 60 door hard enough and they wouldn't reopen. Dealer told me to push against the door hard to get it "seated"/closed..and that worked. Now, in that case though, it would open barn door or drop down style which it sounds like your able to open drop down style, so ???

Nothing wrong with my 60-40 doors. The issue was the regular tailgate was not closed hard enough and therefore the release button would not work on the larger of the barndoors. You can't close tailgate normally, you must slam it shut. Even if latches properly, for some reason it doesn't register for the barndoors to open unless you slam (or close very firmly).

FWIW, I have found that if I keep the palm of my hand firmly against the back of left barn door as I slam it closed, it helps it stay latched better. I think what's happening is that with my palm still pushing firmly all the time as I slam it closed, it keeps the left door from flexing/bouncing so much and the latch stays fully seated. Effectively, my hand and arm damp out the tendency of the gate to flex & bounce back out of the final latching position.
EDIT: More of a fairly firm closure than a "slam", but the key is keeping my hand flat against the back of the barn door to keep it from flexing/bouncing.

I do this also👍

Hope I don’t jinx myself, but I don’t have to slam my tailgate. Yes I close it firmly, but not having to slam it. It’s been one of my favorite things on my truck.

Maybe I chose my words poorly, it's more accurate to say that I close mine firmly rather than slamming it, with my hand firmly against the gate at all times.

I agree, the MFT is my favorite feature on my truck. Have you noticed how easy & fast it is to get up into the bed with Ram's MFT compared to any of the other solutions on Ford & GM pickups? I still can't believe that Ram doesn't advertise that. It would be a great commercial, three video panes side by side, showing each of the three solutions in use. The others do have some nice features as well, but in terms of day-to-day usefulness and ease of entry to & exit from the bed, Ram wins hands-down.
