Mopar Trifold hard Tonneau Cover (and Bakflip MX4?) not latching properly

After I installed mine, I noticed the white plastic latches were binding when closing. They get slightly twisted inside the black housings. I played with them for a bit and figured out that this twisting (torquing) was causing the square edges of the white parts to bind with the housing. I manually torqued them and pushed them in several times which scraped off a bit of the square edge. They then closed perfectly with no binding. I think normal use would eventually have the same effect.
Since then they close as you'd expect and you can just drop the sections from ~5" high and they latch.
Did you install your rails by pushing/sliding them onto your bed rails (almost like a press fit)? Or did yours mount like mine wherein you slide them on and then tighten several bolts that draw up tabs to secure the rail?

The Rambox version slides into the slot on top of the bed hold down rail. No clamps are used.

Mine slid on just as advertised but that shouldn't impact the cover latches in any way although I am making an assumption that Bak is using the same white cover latches on both versions.

My Mopar version has black latches.

My Mopar version has black latches.

Mine has black outer latches - the part that doesn't move and is screwed into the cover. The moving part of the latch is what's white and was needed to scrub off the square edges so it would slide easily when closing.

The moving part of my latches are also black on the Mopar cover. I wonder if they used different types of plastic for the latches?

I am picking up my new Ram truck with Rambox's on a 5'7"bed tomorrow and was planning on buying the Mopar version, 82215225AB, of the BakFlip MX4, for convenience, and install it myself. I had a MX4 on my Silverado I'm trading in, and I give them a high quality rating. Is there any consensus on which hardtop is better? They both cost about the same. This thread makes me wonder if I should just order a Backflip.

The Mopar cover is very nice. I think you want to look for the part number ending in AC which appears to be the 3rd version of the cover. I recommend caulking between the factory rails and the sides of the bed with silicone to avoid leaks coming in outside the cover along the top edge of the box.

I think it's a crap shoot to know if you will have this fitment problem. I like the cover. But I don't like how RAM and the OEM didn't seem to care to fix the problem.

It was a similar story with other issues, RAM cares basically told me that until a lot of people complain, RAM won't do anything about the problems I listed.

I actually bought the Mopar version for convenience only. According to someone from Tonneau Factory Outlet, the Mopar MX4 equivalent hardcovers are made by Bakflip. Anyway, I'll let you know how my install goes. Right now truck is in getting Line-X sprayed in bed liner applied. Hopefully will install hardcover in next few days.

How did your install go? Seems like I can get a better price on the mopar cover than the MX4... any idea why?
