So…it finally happened! After years of waiting and wanting, I got myself a used 2022 RAM 1500 HEMI with 49k miles. 🚙💨
Quick question for anyone with experience: what’s your take on the Mopar MaxCare warranty? The dealer quoted me $4,200 for an additional 5 years/50k miles. They also offered a non-Mopar option (don't recall the name but 1K cheaper), but I’m not sure which way to go—or if an extended warranty is even worth it. I’ve never purchased one for any of my past cars, so I’d love to hear some feedback.

big horn, laramie or limited???? i would def get powertrain coverage. that max care is only going to be a additional about 80 bucks a month on a 5 year note.
i consider it cheap insurance.
if it's e torque that system is covered 8/80000 and not CHEAP to repair. also emissions is 8/80000
you can also get a quote directly from mopar. i guarantee the stealer i mean dealer has a mark up.
be aware that if you mod it it may void your coverage i would read over any coverage very carefully.

Laramie - V8 non eTorque.

I bought mine from mopar , I bout 2019 big horn a year or so back the non mopar was 6,800 from the dealer and they didn't
try to push the mopar one which was strange , went on line got mopar warranty so long story short I would , these trucks can be really good or just a lot trouble.

That's the only warranty I would buy and check out here online. Usually cheaper without the middle man

Ziegler Warranty Mopar

Both Ziegler and Granger offer significant discounts.

You can always use their quote to beat up your dealer too... I got them to price match Ziegler (actually beat by $100) AND take a $30K down payment on my favorite miles CC. It's all about leverage.

FL, CA, and I believe possibly TX doesn't allow discounts on warranties. SMH.

I vaguely recall something about FL being retarded with regards to the Extended Warranty.
Not sure why. The car/truck lobbyists give more in FL?
Years ago for my wife's vehicle I purchased an Extended Warranty from a dealer in another state where my brother lived for the vehicle purchased in FL.
He then sent me the paperwork.
It was about 1/2 the price.
Never had to use it so not sure if there would have been an issue.

Hard to give advice without knowing how many miles you drive per year and how long you plan to keep the truck.

Maybe around 10k miles a year — I’m keeping it until the wheels fall off...lol
As someone who had lifetime powertrain on my 2008 Ram Laramie and the unlimited miles max care on my 2015 limited.
I also purchased 8year, 125K mile max care for my 2023 Limited.

Knock on wood, 27K miles on my 2023 Limited no real issues yet. A few items replaced under factory bumper to bumper.

My 2015, paid 2500 cash for the unlimited Max care at time of purchase.
It MORE Than paid itself off over the 8 years I owned it.
I had it in the dealership at least 4-5 times for the air ride alone.
Replaced a few worn front end parts, replaced water pump/thermostat, several other things I can’t recall at this time.
Here’s the rub.
Unless you have an extra vehicle at your home (I have two, extra Jeep and my motorcycle) for me it wasn’t the low cost of the $100 deductible at that time.
It was waiting for parts and dealerships no longer offering a loaner.
With Max care you get like 25 a day for 7 or 10 days. Try getting a shoebox for that much…

If I recall… they stopped with the unlimited, non-transferable max care in 2018 or 2019…
Now you can you can only buy up to 8yr, 125K on new. I’m unsure about used.

I too thought I’d keep my 2015 till the wheels fell off. But at 140K or so miles.. the tech was outdated, it spent a few times at the dealer for days or even a week or so.. the last time it was in it was at the dealer for over 4 weeks due to air ride back order on parts. Yes, it’ll save your bacon on big cost repairs…and it covers a ton.
But unless you can get a loaner from your dealer or have an extra car, that’s the real stress point.

my friend has a 2011 ram sport 5.7 with 250k miles on it and climbing 100 miles daily he would have loved the unlimited warrantee. he has not had any major issue's. other than the cracked exhaust manifold but the piece of mind would have been worth every penny.
he got a good one, he has only done routine maintenance it don't leak or burn oil. list of original parts
starter
alternator
a/c compressor
transmission
read diff
water pump

While I definitely got my money's worth out of the maxcare plan, I drive 35000 miles per year.
Today, longest period and miles is 8 years/125000 I believe. Not worth it, now that regular warranty on 2026 is 100000 miles.

However, for a 2022 it might be worth it.
