High mileage hemi non e-torque, 167K.
Ran great when I test drove it, bought it, got about a quarter of the way home on the 12 hour drive and check engine light came on.
It just sits and flutters now at idle or when stopped in traffic, really irritates me. Swapped plugs and coils, no change (the plugs were DONE and #5 coil was torn badly). Ran some injector cleaner, got better for a short while, idled more smoothly. However, it is now back to misfiring and throwin' codes.
Sat and went through all of the realtime data streams while idling. Seems to run great when in motion or perhaps just the vibration of normal driving masks the misfires.
I would love some veteran Hemi owners opinions, I'll tell you everything that I know.
1. My scanner cannot test the front O2s but can check the rears, they are both fine.
2. Extremely brief tick when cold starting. Probably will throw some Ram manifolds on it soon if the studs aren't broken. I probably only drive 4-5K miles a year (other than the 3K mile, 6K pound tow, that I am about to embark on). MDS is still enabled and doesn't seem to be causing any issues other than the Active Vibration management thing throws a code after being on the freeway for a while. I would love to know how to diagnose. Is it the module on the firewall or one of the shakers on the frame, how can I tell? It definitely vibrates on the freeway in ECO mode.
4. While watching the realtime data today I noticed that nearly everything was within spec but then I saw that the fuel trim on the RT bank is WAY higher than the left bank, like 9% vs 1-3%. The right bank is where the misfires are occurring, so I think that there is something important there. I would like to pull the injectors and move them to different cylinders to see if the misfire moves with them, but I couldn't get the fuel rail to even wiggle after pulling the two fasteners that I could find.

Do these issues scream anything other than injector problems to any of the Hemi vets in here?
Thank you in advance for any insights that you can offer.

-Steve

UPDATE: Could it be resolved????

I worked on the truck for several hours yesterday including swapping injectors 6 & 8 with those in 2 & 4.
Upon restart it was running worse than it ever has and this was after cleaning the injectors with a bit of solvent, lubing up the seals and reinstalling the rail.
Misfires moved from 6 to 2!!! YEA! Except, why is it running so much worse. After a while I realized that the injectors weren't quite seated completely in the intake. Coerced them in to place and for the first time since I have owned it, it idles almost imperceptibly, my son didn't believe me that the engine was running. There also seems to be less of a delay at throttle tip-in and possibly a bit more powerful feeling overall, but only just. Oh, and no DTC's at all for the first time.
Ran a few errands, probably 3 stops/restarts over the course of 8-10 miles. It was still glassy smooth when I got home.
Will rescan this afternoon to check the misfire counts and check the fuel trims.
But, I may have fixed it in the driveway without consuming any parts!

BMW mechanic told me you will get misfires if spark plugs are not torqued properly.

Sounds like you had poorly installed injectors at the factory. It's possible.

Sounds like that mechanic is in idiot. Torque spec is not going to affect plug firing. If the plug is not screwed in all the way sure, but just a few inch/pounds off max torque, no way.

It's a good day when you fix existing parts with elbow grease and your wallet remains the same(y)

You a BMW mechanic?

My truck got real sensitive to fuel around the 86k mile mark. It would run great for a tank or two and then do the loping idle with misfires on cyl 8. I replaced plugs at 100k and nothing changed. Switching to mid grade fuel made a slight improvement but things cleared up once I ran a few tanks of fuel system cleaner through it. I'm blaming gummed up injectors and water in my tank from filling up at some random Dollar General. I'm at 138k miles now and it runs and idles like new.

I'm still running mid grade and am quite picky about where I fill up.

It's the additives in the gas that makes the difference from one brand to the next.
From the 2019 Owner's Manual

"Materials Added To Fuel Besides using unleaded gasoline with the proper octane rating, gasolines that contain detergents, corrosion and stability additives are recommended. Using gasolines that have these additives will help improve fuel economy, reduce emissions, and maintain vehicle performance. Designated TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline contains a higher level of detergents to further aide in minimizing engine and fuel system deposits. When available, the usage of TOP TIER Detergent gasoline is recommended. Visit www.toptiergas.com for a list of TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline Retailers"

Shell, Chevron and Kroger are my go-to stations. Kroger isn't on the Top-Tier list but it's my preffered supplier.
Marthon is the other station I visit occassionaly so I'm glad to see it on that list as well.
