Mechanical Speedometer malfunction

Recently purchased a 2020 ram 1500, seems to be having mechanical speedometer issues that are intermittent …. One day it will be working fine, MOST days though it doesn’t matter if I’m going 30-40-50-60-70 mph… my digital speedometer seems to display the correct speed but my mechanical speedometer reads 8mph, 10 mph, 12 mph and never more than 20 mph …. Not sure if it’s the cluster, or a speed sensor … stock 285/45r22 tires on the truck … any help would be greatly appreciated, i can throw a picture up for reference

How does the odometer work? I'm pretty sure the all work off of the same signal. If odometer is still working properly, the mechanical speedo is bad. I don't know if they are replaceable separately or if you have to replace the cluster. You might find an auto electric shop that can fix the gauge itself. Out of warranty, I wouldn't go to a dealer, they will for sure replace entire cluster. (I used to be a dealership mechanic)

Hàs to be guage cluster as the input is the same source

My mechanical speedometer was acting wonky before 400miles on mine!! Had to wait about a month, but the dealership put a new cluster in. No problems in 8000 miles on it now!! Seems you need a new cluster

Out of warranty, I wouldn't go to a dealer, they will for sure replace entire cluster. (I used to be a dealership mechanic)

What is your issue with replacing a cluster assembly at the dealer? They may have good relationship w/ the local dealer that would goodwill it for them.

I think it is possible to take the cluster apart and replace the stepper motor individually. I did a view on Chevys.

The issue is, they will probably charge over a thousand dollars, for parts and labor installing an entire cluster. An auto electric shop may repair for a couple hundred.
