My last truck was a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 MegaCab 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel. That motor was bullet proof and you could do whatever you want to it for not much money. Major HP and TQ for cheap. I never had any kind of major maintenance needed. Pretty much oil changes. Unfortunately that truck was lost in an accident caused by another dimwit driver and I couldn’t spend over $80K on a new diesel truck. I know the eco diesel is a totally different animal, but what kind of maintenance has to be done to them that makes them so problematic? BTW, I really miss having my diesel HD truck that had over 600 HP and 1100 Ft Lbs TQ, after driving this gas truck. This truck just seems so weak. It’s fancy though, I guess.
my buddy at work says the same thing. He has a 08 ram 2500 Cummins I believe it is and he has had it for years with no issues and almost 300k miles. Says he could never see himself paying upwards of 70-80k for a new diesel. Another buddy just bought a used 2019 2500 with a Cummins and paid like $70k for it. too much for a used truck IMO

So I don't know how the eco compares to the Cummins but I know that when it comes to the Cummins it can be less about the maintenance and more about the repairs. I know my buddy, as an example, tells me injectors are $2500 just for the parts, something like 3 fuel filters too and the massive quantity of oil for every oil change. He loves his and does the maintenance properly but he's pretty strong in the mindset that unless you need a diesel, buy a gas burner.

I know right!
I have not taken delivery of mine yet, but will most likely do it myself.
Here's a thread on another forum describing the oil change on the 3rd gen diesel. It doesn't seem that mysterious really! This thread doesn't cover the fuel filter though.
Hopefully doing it oneself doesn't mess with the warranty coverage ? I guess as long receipts are kept, maybe even pictures as well, it should be OK.
I've had the 'brilliant idea' to change my own oil on occasion : I get the job done successfully, but usually I spill oil on the floor, then step in it and tread it all over the garage, and while taking the drain plug out, I invariably finish up with oil running down my hand and up my sleeve. That other thread I linked as a comment or two referencing a "Fumoto drain valve hose kit", which sounds like exactly what I need to save me from myself ! In the past I concluded that the ~ $40 odd I saved by doing it myself was hardly worth it for the mess I made and how long it took ! At $200 I might just have to learn how to get better at it.

I ordered the diesel partly because of how much quieter it is then the hemi. I also love the idea of driving 700+ miles on a tank of diesel.

Just registered to say thank you to this forum and Mark Dodge. Logged in Thursday, saw they had a 1500 Laramie Southwest Edition. A couple hours later i had signed the paperwork and booked a flight to pick it up. 55k, 15-17% lower than anyone in my local area would quote me for the same vehicle. The service when i arrived was above and beyond. It drives great, i really enjoyed my 6 hour road trip back

How was that experience?
Currently debating having them drive it to me (South of Houston) or do rental car and go pick it up. Thanks!
Sorry for delay. It was Smooth as silk. Was able to track it on ram apps and they showed up right on time. I’m actually in south Houston as well (Pearland).
If you choose to pickup, Don’t do a rental, take a casino bus to golden nugget or labuerge. Will drop you within 10 minutes of MD for $30 bucks or less.

Thanks for the reply and the tip on casino bus. i will look into that. I am in League City, patiently waiting the call from MD. Train was due in on the 8th, so hopefully this week!

Absolutely. I want to say mine was like 5 days from train getting in to getting to the lot. Here's the bus I was looking at, they leave from Gulfgate mall. Ultimately, I decided not to spend a total of 5 hours of driving when I could have it on my doorstep for free. Initially I was worried about some teenager ripping my baby down I-10 but it was a really nice senior who drove it. Probably does it as a retirement gig.

For anyone who went through Renea for your order, when she says your truck is at the railyard awaiting transport to MD and a member of the delivery team will be in contact…..is that Aaron? My truck got to Port Allen last Thursday/Friday so I was just curious who reached out to me when it is ready to go at MD. TIA

Most likely a phone call from Aaron. You will get an email as well from Aaron that tells you "Whats Next". You will discuss final price and any rebates etc. Then you will do a zoom call with finance. They will discuss your payment options and extended warranty. They have a good warranty that you can negotiate to a good price, but max is 6 years. At 5 years and change, you can add another year, but they could not give price now. Main reason why I stuck with Ziegler Mopar warranty. There's is better in that you can see whatever mechanic you choose. They will pay the mechanic at time of service via credit card over the phone. Since the plan is to keep longer than that, I did not fit the profile for their warranty.

Once finished with finance, your temp tags are issued and it is ready for either pick up or shipping.

Good Luck!!!

Mine was due in on the 8th on the train as well. We gave family in Lake Charles so we decided to roll the dice and take a spring break trip from the 13th -18th to pick up the new RAM. Stopped into Mark yesterday and it sounded like the truck still hadn't been off loaded from the train after 5 days. Really hoping it gets delivered in the next few four days...

I thought it would be safe to assume after 10-11 days it would make it to the dealership after reading countless people say theirs came in a day or two. Just going to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best...

Did something change since late December? I definitely have an 8 year LDS Ultimate.

That was not offered to me. And I told him that the 6 years and unknown price beyond was a problem for me. I have to assume that they do not go 8 years any longer as he was aware that was a major point for me. He was making a point that most people don't keep truck beyond 5 to 6 years so no need to go beyond that with warranty.

I am sure that years 6 7 and 8 are where most people are using this extended warranty and they are trying to limit payouts where they can.

I was somewhat aware of the LDS before I spoke to him which was good....I too didn't anticipate the 6 year only. But we were on this topic for a good 10 minutes...which doesn't seem like long, but on a zoom call it is. Very polite and not pushy at all, just giving me the facts. I wanted to purchase that plan just to avoid that dealership at all cost if need be....using your own mechanic is a great selling point...but those last 2 years are important to me.

Yep, can't blame you. I'd have gone with the Mopar warranty as well if I didn't get 8 years.

For ppl who got the Southwest Edition/safety vault console where was your key located? Aaron told me it’s either in the center console or glove compartment but I haven’t been able to find it.
