Hi all,
I’m new here. I’ll poke around and see what I can learn. Looking to switch to a half ton to tow our toy hauler. It’s a small Jayco and loaded with motorcycles, water, stuff, should be running around 7k lbs. Nothing too big.

We’ve been towing it with our Touareg (which is surprisingly great for a mid size suv) and have taken it around 10k miles over the past 2 summers. We wanted to move into something with a little more payload and room but don’t want a 3/4 ton as we live in the city (the reason we went mid size suv to begin with).

Since we tow a bit, I’m attracted to the 4 corner air suspension and that’s the main reason we are looking into Ram. I’ve read a few disgruntled reviews of air suspension failure/problems but wanted to still ask for any more input on this. We found a used 2019 Sport (the Canadian kit) that seems to check the boxes we would want (mentioned the air, I want adaptive cruise, wife wants sunroof, has a 3.92 so I’m assuming that should help with towing as well).

Any feedback, info on what to check out would be super appreciated.

Thanks!!!

I have a 2019 Limited w/ air. Like you, I wanted it for towing our holiday trailer. I love the air suspension and the auto-leveling....no more dragging a** down the highway! Personally, I haven't experienced any problems yet. We recently went through an extreme cold spell here in Alberta....temps were down to -45 degrees Celsius. My battery did die on me, but there were no problems with the suspension.

Did you replace the battery?

Where in AB? I was in Red Deer... don’t miss those temperatures.

Your Limited non towing mileage could surprise you. I have a 4x CC 3.21 and it gets pretty good as far as an average.

Check the payload on the truck you’re interested in. You will run out of payload long before you run out of towing power. Depending on the options, you’re 1500 could have upwards of 2000lbs (barebones truck) of payload vs as little as 1000lbs (fully loaded).

I'm in Calgary. Yep, I took the truck into the dealership as I had a bunch of warning lights come on after it was boosted. They did a diagnostic on the battery and it failed. Replaced under warranty.

Showing 1562 on the door jam so I should be ok. Wanted to double check that as I’m sure we’ve been over the payload on tow vehicles in the past and wanted to avoid that and still get the goodies that everyone wants.
