Looking for guidance to put some new shoes on my lovely lady’s feet.

I hope everyone enjoyed the super bowl. So my amazing wife told me she wants to get some new wheels and tires for an anniversary gift for me and our lovely lady big red. We both absolutely love our truck and how smooth she rides. As I am sure many of you have experienced if you purchased recently, it is hard to find a truck in the color you want with all the features you would prefer. Our truck is a Laramie with 18” wheels and tires. She is a street queen so we are looking for suggestions for all season tires for 20” wheels. Our climate is very warm and only have rain to take into consideration. I would like to have the largest size tire we can for a stock set up non air ride without modifications to the suspension. We would love the same ride as stock. The several different top wheel contenders are anywhere from a 0 offset to a +30 offset. I have been searching a lot on here and have digested great info, but I don’t want to make a mistake that sacrifices the ride quality. I would appreciate all of your experiences and suggestions so we can make an educated decision. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

Since you're looking for a stock ride, maybe you want to consider sticking with 18" wheels? Moving up to 20" means you'll lose an inch of sidewall. All other things being equal, that would mean a stiffer ride, though how much you'll feel that is anyone's guess.

If you haven't already, take a look at the two sticky threads in this Wheels and Tires forum; they're good places to start. The second sticky has some good information on some very minimal changes you can make to the wheel well liners and mini-mud flaps if you want to go a bit larger on the tire.

Stock offset is +19, so +30 would tuck the wheels further in by just under half an inch (narrowing the track by 0.86" total). I haven't heard of anyone doing that on our trucks; most either stay close to the stock offset, or go less positive/more negative. I'm running +1 offset wheels, which brings the tires more flush with the fender, instead of inside the fenders.

Thank you for the detailed reply. I have been looking through the sticky threads and I would be fine with modifying the wheel well liners a bit to get a tire with a similar sidewall in 20” to fit. I really appreciate the explanation of how the offset changes the stance. I think what I am searching for the most is experiences from members with different tire brands in all season since most of what I have searched through is for the more rugged all terrain tires for everyone that uses their truck like a truck 😂.
 
In Florida I would give a serious look at Michelin's Defenders. Second choice would be Cooper's AT3. I replaced the Bridgestones with Cooper AT3 4S last fall. The 4S means it is a severe snow rated tire. I chose the Cooper's over the Michelin's because I'm taking a family member 90 miles out for some medical treatments this winter. Need a little more aggressive tire. Been in the nasty stuff twice, Cooper's went right on thru. Normally I would have put the Defender's on, but I'm not complaining about the Cooper's one little bit.

I'm running 20 inch tires, 275/55R/20's same as the last truck. As mentioned there is a shorter sidewall which will not absorb minor road bumps as well as the longer sidewall on an 18" tire. I do not find the ride objectionable at all. IF you go up to 20's you will have to reprogram your speedometer. You will want to make sure your transmission shift points are accurate and the ABS wheel sensor's are correct. Your truck is set up and programmed for 18" tires. It can all be done, but is it worth it? What's your purpose for going up to 20's? Just questions to ask yourself.
 
Thank you for your response. I will give both of those tires a look. The reason is purely cosmetic for going with a 20” wheel. I didn’t really notice a difference in the ride when we test drove both. Different dealers and I was not willing to pay 58k for a truck with a 53k sticker.

The speedo is calculated from the tires overall diameter (mathematically, the circumference), not the rim size?

That’s correct, and it’s originally set by assuming the diameter is the proper tire for the truck’s options and inflation of the tire matches what’s on the door. Also, the calibration is done from only the rear tires, not the front or any kind of average of all 4- which does make a difference.
Like others mentioned, you can set it to anything you want though.
 
Are you looking for something purely aftermarket? Or just something in a 20"? If that's the case, you may find a good deal on takeoffs from someone else's truck, either here, facebook, craigslist, etc.

Full disclosure - I absolutely love Pirelli Scorpion Tires. However, these Vredestein Tires are other other; they seem to out perform anything in their league.

No personal experience here, but I hear great things about vredestein.
 
Michelen MS2 all season tire is what I've had on my last two Rams. I cannot think of any tire being more quiet and smoother. They are pricy and I haven't slid yet in Ohio with the winter weather (imagine that!)
 
Michelin Defenders are incredible in the wet and dry....and pretty darn good in snow, should you ever find yourself in that situation. AND they have a 70K warranty. AND Costco is running a great deal right now (if a member). AND you will NOT have to reprogram the speedo if you go with the OEM size tires on 20" wheels...that only applies of you change the aspect ratio.

I also have a laramie, it came with the wheels shown in my avatar. I bought a set of brand new takeoffs from a Laramie Sport...I LOVE this look cuz I like a bit of bling. Whatever you do, post pictures!

I should clarify...I am running new-ish Defenders on my original wheels as 'Winter wheels'...the Duelers in the picture came on the take-offs. I can't wait for the weather to break so I can put those sport wheels back on.

The Michelin Defender LTX M/S is a staple in FL climate. It handles the rain perfectly and confidently. I also ran the Cooper AT3's on my last Chevy Avalanche and they were a good tire but the Michelin is noticably better. a 20" wheel will be fine.

Good deal buddy. I was a Costco member but we moved about a year ago and had to join the Sam’s crew. It seems the Michelin tires are very popular. You guys have given me a lot of great options. Thank ya kindly
