Larger oil filter on a 4x4 1500?

I read once on here that a filter off an older ram would fit. I can't seem to find that information anymore.
What year is it off of and will it fit a 4x4 ram.

I use this Royal Purple filter. Not sure how much more oil it holds, but it's quite a bit bigger than the original filter.

It's true, the RP filter barely fits, but I can still fit a ziploc bag around it when I replace it.

I use the Fram Titanium FS2 (larger filter) from Advance on the Ram and Jeep 5.7. It’s what was spec’d for 2012 and earlier before the electric steering was added. On the Ram you need to install it from the front and it’ll slide in.

That's what I was looking for. I'll have to do that next time I just picked up a wix. I used a purolator one last change and got lifter noise so I was hoping to get something bigger that would flow better.

Just because it's bigger doesn't mean it will flow better. It simply means there is just that much more oil in the system. If you want a filter to flow better you need to buy a synthetic filter like the Royal Purple filter I posted a link to in my first post.

I run a Mobil 1 EP for similar reasons…filtration, not size.

My 2010 and 2014 Hemis came with the MO-899 filter (04884899A), which has a slightly larger body and increased media. Apparently sometime in the 2014 production run the factory began shipping 5.7 Ram 1500s with the smaller MO-339 (04892339A) oil filter. Although the MO-899 is now spec'd for the Ram 2500-3500 motors, the filter flow and bypass relief specs are the same.

I just installed the larger MO-899 on my most recent oil change with no fitment issues, although I have a two-wheel drive if that makes any difference.

Yes been using MO-899 easily available at Wally and 5w-30 super tech synthetic for 90k miles on my old 2018 1500 and now my 2021 Hemi

I think they changed to the smaller filter in 2014 due to the electric power steering rack. Not sure if it changed in the 2wd models. I installed a PacPro bypass filter kit last year and now use the larger Mopar filter.

True, that’s why I use the Fram Titanium (FS2) synthetic high flow filter.

Bigger filter is not for more flow. It’s for increased filter media size for better filtering capacity between oil changes. AFAIK the bypass and flow between the big and small filters are the same.
