Have a guy trying to sell me some rails so I can connect my tonneau cover. I’ve been feeling sketchy for awhile in our conversation but he claims to be a business with a used set of the AD versions. Tells me he wants $200 shipped for them which sounds good. Then when I ask him for pictures and that I’ll only do PayPal or Venmo I get a delay and then 2 days later he sends me this picture of a “friend” selling his new ones for $300 shipped.

This picture looks nothing like the silver rails I can find on google not to mention theyre effing black. Now he’s trying to tell me oh ya it’s cuz they’re the new AE versions and when I call him out on it as the photo clearly has stickers that say AD he tells oh sorry I’m correct and he misspoke but they’re just a different finish but same genuine Mopar part. Lol

Tell me I’m not crazy and he’s just a scammer. Need someone who has these rails and knows what they should look like.

Go with your gut. Those "rails" do look very strange, and the deal is also very strange.
I would do more verification and hold off on the deal. I am not very aware of the new parts that are being produced for the new model year's worth of trucks.
Most likely, your need is not immediate. A visit to a MOPAR website or dealer parts counter may be able to answer your fears..
I would like to know what those parts are in the future. Please keep us all advised so that we may collectively learn.

Usually that "bait n switch" sale where it links a "friends" email is 100% a scam..and your money is gone!
There are black rails and silver rails, and they do differ as to which are needed for different Tonneau Covers, but those rails just don't look right to me..maybe because the slotted side with quick adjust cleats is on the bottom side of the rail and therefore not visible(?).
Your gut is probably right.

Ya no matter what my money will be protected. I don’t make purchases from private sellers without using PayPal or Venmo with purchase protection.

I’m more or less trying to understand what the rails I need for the tonneau cover I have sitting in my garage needs haha. Especially since they have been out of stock with no eta on coming back for whatever reason.

Then i discovered the “older” versions that end in AD seems to be somewhat available still but can’t find any info on what’s changed between the AD and current AE versions.

Hence my questions as to th photos he sent me as they’re have a “mopar tag” with the correct AD part number but they’re black which was my first question to him and don’t look like the crappy photos I can google from parts websites.

So was hoping someone with the rails can chime in. Or post photos of what they should look like

So, it looks like maybe those are the Tonneau Cover Rails that attach the the Quick Cleat Bed Rails that are factory installed.
My pics aren't great, but what you have a Pic of looks like the Tonneau Cover Rail that I installed with my Mopar Soft Roll-up Tonneau Cover, onto my silver rails that where in my bed from Ram. I don't recall them being a two piece rail per side though(?)...⤵️

They look AI. Look at the label on the left item. It is too clean and the letters are messed up (and do not bend with the sticker). (Also, why is there dirt and metal shavings on the table only where the items are.)

I was thinking they looked a bit..I thought the R one looked strange going over the crease. 🤔

Also, I wouldn't be crouching down to take a picture of them at that angle. I would be taking more of a downward looking picture. That picture was taken to include a lot of background like an AI picture.

So many red flags here. Along with what’s already been mentioned, the rails in the pic don’t look like the black rails that came on either of our 5th gen Limited’s we’ve owned. They are definitely nothing like the silver rails you get with the BUG and no tonneau cover from the factory. The thing that gets me is the truck in the background is a 4th gen. Are they trying to make it look like they came off that truck? I have no idea if 4th gen rails are compatible with 5th gen beds. I would stop all communications with this seller and find another set of rails.

Yeah no. Trust your instincts and tell the scammer to FAFO

Anyone know the actual difference between the Older AD version and the current AE that is forever out of stock? The pics look the same.

Nvm turns out despite searching the part number and google showing you places selling it when I click on them they all auto change to the AE parts which are out of stock.

Rails for aftermarket tonneau top are silver. The black rails are factory direct for soft top. I have the silver I just removed from my 25 RAM and I have just installed on my 26 RAM. Like many of the other others, I have the black rails & factory soft tonneau top that came on the truck.

Agree. I too have the factored black ones. Found a company that had them both in stock. Should be here Monday. Fingers crossed.

Any time it is posting for or selling for a "friend," assume scam. Yes, I know, there is some Nigerian prince who died and spent years trying to give way his fortune, but that Nigerian prince was not on forums selling parts "for a friend." Better to be wrong and let someone else get a good deal than still be wrong and get ripped off.

I did do an image search, and did not find the pics you posted. Finding them would have proven a scam. Still, I do let a deal go once in a while because it just is not going along a "clean" path.
