Hello, I don't know the best place for this thread, so putting it in General. I'm new to the 5th Gen RAM. I just traded up from a 2017 Sport to a 2020 Longhorn, and love it so far, except for this following conundrum for which there is no setup that works. And that is proper GPS...

Scenario #1 - UConnect Android via USB
  • The map works and displays properly
  • At the same time, I can play audio from my apps (nice)
    • It is especially obvious that the navigation audio is f@&Ked, because the audio from like Pandora or whatever mutes, and there is silence for the
turn-by-turn directions - where I should be hearing them.
  • There is no audio for navigation turn-by-turn
    • Yes, I've unmuted
    • Yes, I've adjusted the settings in the app on my phone
    • Yes, I've tried the settings sprocket, and "play test audio", and hear nothing when I hit it
Scenario #2 - Phone via bluetooth only (USB unplugged for this to work correctly)
  • Audio apps work
  • Navigation works fully, including turn-by-turn directions
  • (obviously) No map displays on the 12-inch display.
Scenario #3 - Bluetooth for audio apps, and use on-board car navigation (again, USB unplugged)
  • There is a map that displays
  • The map information is obviously there, because I can punch in addresses
  • BUT the GPS is totally lost
    • It shows an arrow on a map that has no basis on where I actually am
    • There is some sort of setting I found where it provides GPS info, and says GPS confidence "NONE". (yeah, no ****)
    • When I put my home address in, it says it is 151 miles away, when it is actually six miles away.
...and there you have it: Three ways that look like I should be able to accomplish navigation, NONE of which work satisfactorily.

It seems to me that scenario #1 is probably the most likely to be able to get working if someone can share the carefully guarded secrets to how to get the turn-by-turn audio to actually happen.

But honestly, I would accept any one of these if they could be made to work such that:
  1. The map displays on the 12" display
  2. The navigation audio plays properly through the speakers in the vehicle
  3. All other peripheral things work (playing music or podcasts, sending and receiving calls, etc)
Thanks.

I think I found the problem, will try tomorrow. This might be the solution for scenario 1:

"...go into google maps settings then Navigation settings then turn off play voice over bluetooth."

For the onboard GPS (scenario #3), does the fact that the GPS system can't calibrate mean that I simply don't have GPS installed on the vehicle, or does it point to something broken?

#1, when audio muted for turn by turn direction audio try turning the volume up with steering wheel controls it volume adjuster on radio. AFAIK, it the only way to adjust navigation audio.

As for onboard navigation, it is lost. There are many reports of people buying used trucks where the truck still thinks it's in the area where original owner lived. Here is a whole thread with your exact problem. Not sure if it's ever been fixed without replacing the radio

Thanks, yes, I found this thread last night.

This has been quite an adventure. I drove 350 miles to get this truck because it was such a good deal, and it turns out I've got the 3-amp-battery-kill issue described in that thread.

The dealer arranged for my local dealer to replace the bits and pieces in the head unit, and I'm hoping that the fix for the battery drain also fixes the GPS, but we will see.

I really like the truck, and the deal was a good one. So I'm hoping once they replace the parts behind the head unit, that will be the end of it.

I've got a battery tender coming to the house today and will plug the truck in while I'm waiting for the repair.
