My son's truck. It's a 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel with approx. 180,000. It developed the Hemi-tick. Private shop performed MDS delete and new parts. No tick. Two weeks later, the instrument cluster begins to flash and goes dark. All instruments are dead. When it happens, windows will not work. Engine can be shut off but start button doesn't work for restart. Taking the battery cable loose and reconnecting does temporarily resolve the issue. No CEL. Asked mechanic at shop that did the MDS delete if there was a connector that might need to be checked. He said no, as far as he knew.

Please help if you know what might be causing this. Is there any way to diagnose it at home? I'm a past Master Mechanic but don't have modern diagnostic tools beyond a code reader.

I would start with OBD Link MX+ or equivalent, alfaOBD software, SGW (security gateway) bypass cable from amazon and a subscription to alldataDIY.
If that happened to my truck, I would go after the CAN bus to see if it was getting corrupted by some module or CAN-star connector.

Thanks. I suspect this is a connector not properly reseated after the MDS delete. But I have no idea where to look. I've always wanted to try the alfaOBD software. And now might be the time.

is that 180k miles? high miles are a badge of honor.
180 is kinda the first tier. it's a General but not a 4 star yet

Several things check you rear windows for leaking there electrical components behind seats as well bad engine ground you could have an intermediate short that brings battery low and that will cause dash to blinking flashing....I have a 2020 bighorn and take fits no start break pedal acts seized I now have to go under and trip the starter screwdriver cross large pole and small one push clip on small back but not off cross 2 poles and truck turns over use jack bar and power seat to press break and have a person pushing start button lmfao. still can't truly find problem...going to get start switch and install on starter is all I can figure out atleast I will be able to start alone
