If you've had the rear window leak...

I tried sealant along the top, new 3rd brake light and the leak never stopped. Mine was in the upper corners. New OEM back window fixed the issue.

2021 Laramie. Def have a leak. I had removed the upper brake light last month, last time it rained in SoCal and I saw the water on my driver side passenger seatback. The gasket on the light assembly was perfect. No sign of water passing between the gasket and the body metal. No dirt. Gasket bone dry. So I installed new lamps, and reinstalled the light assy and waited for the next rainstorm. That came yesterday, and the leak is of course still there.

So I went to a local glass shop and made an appointment to remove the 5 year old now leaky rear glass and replace it with a single piece rear glass. No slider, no heat. Estimate just under $500. We have never liked the OEM slider in the Ram. Way over complicated, leak-prone and useless for anything we can discern. And the heat has never been of any use where we live, and always will live. I look forward to a nice clear view of the rear undiminished by the slider frame.

I'm still not certain there isn't a leak in the shark fin, or even the upper brake light. Once I get the new glass in, and if there's still a leak, I'll get back to work. Otherwise, we love this truck. Wouldn't part with it.
So after 2 back window replacements and the CHMSL being replaced I am finally leak free. My first one was leaking for years and eventually fried my RFM twice. First RFM was replaced under RAM warranty and second one under insurance claim. Window was replaced (Safelite) also and started leaking again along the top edge. Was replaced under their lifetime with a "better" designed window and has been solid. Still has the lifetime warranty. CHMSL was also leaking at the same time as the second window so that was fun. The CHMSL gasket was totally rotted and RAM covered that. Thank goodness no secondary damage from those second round of leaks. Anyways have fun.

Are you 100% sure your CHMSL isn't leaking?

No, not fully sure about the CHMSL leaking, though when I removed it a couple weeks ago, there was no sign of past leakage there. Gasket was in great shape. Dry. No dirt on it.

I had my OEM slider replaced by a one piece glass. 2 days ago. We have rain coming again today in SoCal, and I will be road testing the new glass.

I have no water stains showing on the inside of my headliner. And the inside of the headliner was bone dry when I pulled the CHMSL immediately following heavy rain a couple weeks ago. So I’m doubting leaks at either the CHMSL or the shark fin. However following that rain I did have water coming in the top corners of the glass and frame. Pretty sure the leak was in the glass.

Since we have rain coming today, I'm gonna tape up the shark fin and the CHMSL to isolate them from the water. Then drive in the rain, and prove whether or not the new single piece rear glass is water tight. After that, I'll remove tape from the other two devices one at a time to prove them. We don't get much rain here in southern California. Gotta get it when you can.

I like my rear slider so much I wanted to keep it, so I did. I use it all the time here in CFL. When my window leaked I didn't have water on the headliner at all. Just dripped under the upper frame onto the top of the back seat and carpet back there. And when we had hurricane Milton come thru the original leaked like a river and it fried my RFH. When my CHMSL started leaking my headliner had 2 semi-large spots on it right above the window, touching the window frame. For my model year there was an extended coverage for the CHMSL because of the crappy seal material they used would rot and leak. They wouldn't replace it unless it was leaking. Dumb asses. So I had to wait until it actually leaked. Luckily my headliner is black and there were no signs of water marks after it dried. I don't know your model year but if it is included in the extended coverage I bet they would replace it with the new one that has a new seal material if you just told them you think it is leaking.

Mine has the tiniest of snail trail type leak in top corner of drivers side.

Today I pulled the 3rd brake light unit, no sign of water ingress but the gasket is starting to fall apart so I've bought a new unit from my dealer - at 20 bucks it wasn't worth procrastinating on that issue, could have gotten it direct from MOPAR for a discounted 15 bucks but they'd probably whack me for carriage...

Not gonna F around with replacement window palaver so I'll probably clean the upper window groove out with a pressure washer, let it dry and then hit it with flowable silicon.

I thought about sealing my leaky rear glass with silicone. I decided I don’t like the way silicone sealants age. Give it two years in this heavy duty SoCal sunshine and I’d have to scrape it out and put in new.

I decided to simply replace the glass. And not with an identical to the old glass. I want to be finished with this leak. And so far, I am finished with it. I love my clear seamless glass. It affords a great view of the rear. And did I mention how much it does not leak?

I'm in SoCal. I did mine right after they replaced it. 4 years ago and still not leaking. Now, was that the new glass or the silicon? Don't know. Worth the effort though imo.
