How To Remove Lower Front Window Trim Without Damaging

As the thread title says I am looking for some know how on removing the lower horizontal window trim( mine happens to be chrome and on the front passenger door). I think some of you out there have done this either to change to a different piece or to cover over the existing piece. If I can take it off without damaging, I can repair a small dent and not have to replace the piece. Any help, especially pictures or diagrams if you have them would be greatly appreciated.

buy some plastic trim removal tools and slide underneath to "snap" the retainers off (out).

(metal tools will most likely damage the paint on the door panel)
