How is it that some dealers still have new 2022's on the lot?

I noticed that some dealers, not near me, that still have new 2022's on the lots according to their websites. We are getting real close to the production of 2025's. Does Ram not help dealerships get rid of old inventory after some point? Just curious. If there was a screaming deal, I think I would still consider one, but the discounts are roughly the same you can get on any 2023-24 model.

Economy is in shambles dealers and manufacturers are not even trying to help the situation.

If that's true they Re probably smaller dealers that dont have volume sales, or they werent optioned the way the people in that area want

I also noticed one dealer in CA has 8 new 2021's on the lot. Most of these are the diesel motor though.

I would think they are all 3.0 ecodiesel equipped. Can't sell a new car with an open recall.

Not all. The 2022's left are a mixed bag. I saw one dealer had 4 22's left and none were diesel.

My guess priced crappy.. took two seconds to see they still want 77k for a 21 Limited.. yeah okay lol it’ll continue to sit at that price unless they find some sucker that just has to have it. Better discount that bad boy and make it more appealing to a potential buyer. Interest rates might have something to do with it also might have a harder time securing a loan with it being a 21 as opposed to a few years newer or have to pay slightly higher rates.

You just never know but if I was in the market today that price alone I would say no thank you and look for a newer year unless discounted better.

I agree. I saw a 22 that I would maybe consider if it was at a great price. But the discounts are no better than what you could get on a 23 or 24 model. I'm not sure how else you move old product without offering it at an enticing price. They might be selling them as new, but even with no miles on it, the cars are 1 or 2 years old and have been sitting out in the elements for that whole time.

I always kinda figured they are raking cash in so fast that they don't have time to worry about waste. And of course there will be some vehicles that are just not optioned the way anyone wants. They don't seem to be inclined to drop prices, so I guess things have not become really tight for the dealers yet.

Buying for me starts online. I browse local inventory when I see a dealer wanting MSRP on a 21 when theres 24s easily available I go ahead and exit and move on to the next. Had it been a 24 listed at MSRP okay not the end of the world. Obviously prices are negotiable but if your to damn greedy to at least list a 21 a few grand cheaper online to attract a potential buyer your not worth a simple phone call or email let alone viewing in person. It’s a dime a dozen Ram 1500 not something rare or limited like a GT350 or something. Same thing happens when a dealer wont even list a price and want you to “inquire” to get a simple listed price nope go f yourself lol.

There's a variety of tools that the mfr provides to dealers to get the product moving. It can start with rebates that customers see, sometimes can include rebates the customers DONT see (ie stairstep), and in some cases gets very specific where they'll do "X$ dealer cash on any inventory of XX trim that is over XX days old." BUT, there is also a point, which changes every time, that they alert us of a "stop payment" meaning no more rebates, no more bonuses, no more help, on a particular model-year or trim. The 22's are well beyond that point, so if dealer has a NEW 2022, they're on their own. This is why it may seem like, "geeze, shouldn't this be discounted further?!" but in reality its hard becuase the 2023s are getting huge rebates, and the 2024s even have some, the 22s are bare. Good time to send them out to auction, use as dealer demos, loaners, or sell to fleet like rental companies etc.

We've got a fair amount near me, and I always get excited when I see one.
Then looking at the details you quickly see why it's gone unsold - usually a poor mix of options.

A lot of 3.6 V6's, lots of small gas tanks, lots of halogen headlights, lots of missing chip-dependent features like parking sensors, blind spot, etc.

According to Cargurus there are 56 new 2022 Ram's for sale within 200 miles of me.

66% of them were V6 or ecodiesel trucks.

The remaining 34% all appeared to be specialty vehicles. Nearly all were commercial with utility box bed or no bed at all. One was equipped with snow plow. There were a couple of TRXs and a Powerwagon.

In other words, all trucks with a very small market of buyers so it will take much longer to sell these trucks.

I see one dealer in Decatur Indiana has 12 2022 Laramie's with 4x4 and the hemi motor. All with an MSRP of around $70k. So not odd balls.

Since that's the majority of their entire Ram inventory I would guess they are a small dealer that recently received a batch of low milage program cars driven by Ram employees or used as loaners that they can still sell as new. Most are heavily discounted and include comments like "Check out this great low mileage vehicle!"

I wouldn't say $12K off a $70k price is heavily discounted for a 2022. Since you can go order a new 2024 with Mark Dodge and get a much larger discount right now.

I spoke with a dealer a few years ago and he was telling me back then, that in a few years there will be a glut of 20 through 22s hitting the market. This is because unfinished vehicles that sat in manufacturer storage lots until parts became available are finally being released for sale. The shortage of parts was caused by covid and what parts that were available went into highly optioned cars & trucks.

I wouldn't say $12K off a $70k price is heavily discounted for a 2022. Since you can go order a new 2024 with Mark Dodge and get a much larger discount right now.
And this we be especially true if we are going to speculate that these were loaner cars and/or employee driven and have mileage on them.

You got me curious, so I searched a 100 mile radius on Autotrader. Wow, 19 of them. Looked like most were Black Widows or some other overpriced dealer package.
