As the title says; sometimes i want to keep the radio running after i shutoff off the truck and exit but every time i open the doors it automatically shuts off the radio. I feel like this is possibly due to a setting in the head unit that i don’t know about? Could someone kindly help me out? TIA

Once you open the door take your thumb or a screwdriver or similar and press in the latch on the door where it hits the striker bar so it thinks it's closed. Remember prior to closing the door pull the outside door handle to release the latch then close the door.

Other than leaving the accessories on, I don't know of one. I can't think of any vehicle I've owned that allowed the radio to keep playing after the key was "removed". Most allow the radio and power windows to work for about 30sec to 1min. after the key is removed and accessories are turned off.

Even if you figure a way to trick the computer to think the door isn't open, the accessories off should cut power to the audio system and turn off the radio anyways in a short time.

Used to do this on my Furd, but it was only to disable the chime while the door was open and the key was turned to ACC power.

It makes sense not to keep the sound system playing after shutting the engine off. It would be too easy to leave it running. Then when you get into your truck the next morning to go to work, the engine wont's start because the battery is dead.

Thanks all so far for the responses. I just like to be able to have my radio on while i’m tailgating, bbq’ing or etc…

something like this might be a better solution https://www.jbl.com/bluetooth-speakers/JBL+CHARGE+4.html?dwvar_JBL CHARGE 4_color=Blue-USA-Current&cgid=bluetooth-speakers#start=1

other options out there as well but I picked one up and it works great for backyard bbq and I actually use a slightly smaller version in my 65 mustang since it’s Bluetooth and the sound is good and it’s cheaper and easier than upgrading stereo and speakers in the old pony.
I did a side-by-side comparison of that speaker and the Bose soundlink mini II at Costco a while back. The Bose won for me. Smaller and better bass IMHO. The only drawback is the Bose speaker isn't water proof or water resistant. I don't use it near the water, but I probably would have gone with the JBL if I did. Costco has it right now for $160.

Actually, if he opens his door with the truck off, it will automatically turn off the radio, which was his initial question.

The procedure that will work for him is that he needs to leave the accessories on so the truck doesn't cut power to the audio system, which it in 30sec - 1min once the truck is off whether you open the door or not.

He can then roll down the windows and listen to his music while tailgating, but be careful not to drain the battery. Better to buy an battery powered audio system and use that instead. Modern lithium powered audio systems have a long run time and rechargeable, it's a better solution than draining your truck battery.

Bose stuff is great stuff for sure. Usually costs a few more bucks but if that isn't a problem you certainly get a good product. I love my BOSE sport ear buds.

I went JBL for the waterproof feature as you mentioned. It's just nice not having to worry about it outside if it starts raining or kids are running around with the water guns/balloons or whatever. I use it while I'm washing the vehicles as well and the speaker has been "washed" a few times by accident. Waterproofing tested and confirmed!

I leave the key on accessory and open both back doors so the speakers are easy to hear. This is our drive in movie process. When sitting in the bed or on chairs.

Mine won't play the stereo for more than something like 30 minutes when on acc. I haven't been able to find a setting that allows it to stay on longer. I got tired of having to turn it back on every half hour, which is why I went with the bluetooth speaker. It seems like that's a 5th gen thing though because I used to be able to do that with my 4th gen and it would run for as long as I wanted.

Our Jeep does the same thing.

And yeah...my truck is a 4th Gen.

Another reason to keep it...lol

I'm not sure I understand this need. For decades, you turn the key off and all power dies. All of it. Then they started to allow power to remain for a period of time if the doors remain closed. Once you open a door, it kills all power to save the battery from draining.

As only a few have mentioned, you need to leave the power in Accessory mode for it to continue working with the door open. Due to people being stupid and forgetting to shut the power off, the manufacturers keep adding safety precautions to override owner stupidity, so now even Accessory mode has a timeout to save the battery.

You only option for long term tailgating is a separate speaker/audio setup.

That part might be news to the OP if his profile info is correct and he is 20 years old. If that's the case then there's a chance he's been mostly in vehicles that continues power after the vehicle has been shut off.

I could be totally wrong about that as when I was in HS/college I was in plenty of vehicles that were older than I was, but also last week we had a moment like this with our 16 year old and it definitely made me feel old.

On the topic though, I get so used to driving my truck that when I get back in my 66 Buick after the winter break, it always throws me off having so many differences between the two vehicles (night and day), but it's always a great experience to get back to that old school feel.

An ice chest full of beers, laying on the beach with your girlfriend with the doors open and your 8 track playing tunes.

It didn’t get any better.
