How difficult is it to switch the rear end from 3.21 to 3.92 gears?

I have a 2021 ram that tows my open car trailer nicely but recently ive been looking at switching to a 24ft enclosed trailer thats about 1500lbs heavier, the truck is 1500 e-torque crew cab with 6'4 box and is 4x2 the chart I found states the tow capacity is 8,310lbs max trailer. The same fca chart states that the same config but with 3.92 gears is 11,410lbs, Id like the extra head room and better acceleration of the 3.92 gears how difficult is it to change the rear ratio?

Is it as simple as swap the rear axle out for a junkyard one with the 3.92 and change some things with alpha obd? is it possible to just change the ring and pinion or is that more hassle then its worth, are there different versions of the 3.92 axles from the junkyard I need to watch out for? If there is already a thread on this I missed please do share but I did see anything when I searched.

thanks

Would be better off to just have the ring and pinion replaced. Not sure about these trucks and having to program for the new gear ratio. I know it's an option with my TazerDT. On my older Dakota, the computer automatically adjusted for the gear ration using the speed sensors.

I’ve done ring and pinions before on ford 8.8s quite few times as it’s popular with drift cars. I just know some axles you can’t really switch the ring and pinions I didn’t know if it was able to be done on these trucks

They still use the Chrysler corporate 9.25 rear axle. Definitely doable. Have same basic axle in my 00 Dakota R/T that I had 4.10 gears installed in.

Keep in mind the towing numbers are limited by payload. Do you know what the tounge weight of the loaded trailer will be?

i would just swap the entire rear out. by the time you pay parts and labor it would not be far off just getting another rear. swapping it out would be a breeze.

The only downside, now you have to get rid of the old axle, but I get what you're saying as well.
