I wasn’t able to break it down as the HK was part of the Rebel 12 package on my 2020, but comparing it to the Alpine in my Gen 4, it is definitely worth the upgrade. I think that some of the earlier complaints were before the update, and there are still some who are complaining that it’s too “boomy” after the update. Personally, I think that the HK sounds great, and I never had any issues with its overall acoustics. If you’re on the fence, I’d suggest that you go to a local dealership and listen to both systems yourself as opinions certainly differ on this topic.
I test drove a few different trucks with the alpine system and thought it was good, until one of the sales guys told me to jump in his truck and listen to the HK system, I was blown away by how much better it sounded.
Everyone is different tho and I would highly recommend listening to both systems at low and high volumes for yourself, some people think the alpine sounds better, some think the HK does.
Honestly it just depends, I have the HK system and i added an additional 10" sub and i love it, but i also drive 1-3 hours/day and like to listen to my music with the volume all the way up.
sound is kinda something that you just need to experience. I thought they sounded pretty similar at low to mid volume. the HK was maybe a tad bit more full? is that the right word? but I think where the HK really shines is at max volume and everything stays super clear
I think it would be worth it. I wish I had it in my Laramie. I thought the Alpine system sounded pretty good, until I heard my girlfriend's HK system. I've improved mine a little bit with better dash speakers. But if I had it to do over I think I would pay the extra for that system.
