This is my first full size truck. The previous was a 2015 Colorado Z71. My new RAM is a 2020 Rebel.

Bare with my full size nubie question.

I measured receiver height on the truck and it’s 22”. I leveled the trailer, a tandem axle ShoreLand’r, and the coupler height is 22”. So no drop would be needed.

I really expected to have to get a drop hitch considering the full size truck. Does this sound right to you guys?

i think you‘ll need a 2” drop, but I would do some research on Google or contact a company that sells trailer towing equipment

Hitch height is measure at THE TOP OF THE BALL.

My trailer required(s) a 17" high ball. Ran just fine on my Honda Pilot with a ball at receiver height - needed a 6" DROP for my 1500.

You might not require such a drastic one coming from a Colorado. You still have your draw bar? One way to FIND OUT...

MEASURE...

I measured from the bottom of the trailer coupler.

you need to do all your measurements with the trailer connected. This allows for the tongue weight to be considered (and these trucks ride nice with the rear springs, but drop like rocks with trailers connected :( ). Steps are:
a) use whatever hitch you have
b) connect up trailer
c) determine the difference in trailer tongue height you need for the trailer to be level
d) do the math of c) versus the drop of the hitch you are using, and then get the correct drop hitch so the trailer is level when towing.
