Bought new, 2011 JGC Limited 5.7. Now 12 yrs. old and 95K miles.
Always serviced using Mobil 1 & wix filters.
Never had a major problem.

I noticed a tick a couple of months ago. Not the exhaust manifold.
Heres' what was done to eliminate the tick.

Added 7oz. of Seafoam into the crankcase. Ran it for 50 miles.
Changed the oil using Moble 1 and Wix filter.
Tick is Gone.

Tick has not returned in approx. 2K miles.
Will change again in 2K miles and will use Redline 5w30.

I am not suggesting that you do the same, but just reporting my experience dealing with the dreaded tick.

Do you have a video of what your tick sounded like? I'm wondering if it's similar to mine.

No I didn't think of that.
I just noticed a clear tick. sounded like tapping your fingernail on a hard surface. Very noticeable.

I then read ALOT about it on forums, Utube, etc. Many, many opinions, theories etc. It appears no one has a definite cause or cure.
I have no doubt that the lifter/ cam wear is a real thing plaguing a lot of Hemis. MDS or not.
Some folks have run them 100K+ miles with the tick.

Of course Chrysler or Stelllantis want nothing to do with this. It's because there are millions of Hemis out there a comparatively low number that suffer.
They want too avoid a can of worms. Say $$$$$

I just came up with the things stated in my post.
Didn't feel comfortable using SeaFoam in the crankcase, but did it anyway to maybe "wash" the lifters.
Only left it in for about 50 miles and did an oil change with Mobile1.

The tick was gone , at least for now, and hasn't reappeared in the last 2K miles.

Read on numerous forums about guys switching to Redline 2w20 or 5w30.
Best luck with 5w30.
One guy got started polling results of folks switching to Redline. It that showed an 80% success rate.
The oil is expensive but I am retired and only drive about 10K miles a year.

I want my JGC to go to 200K, if I live that long! (LOL)
Love this rig.

If you have any Questions or Suggestions let me know.

Glad it worked out for you! I may consider doing the same. Was it a cold engine knocking? Did it disappear when the engine was at operating temp?

Mine ticked at start-up and also when at operating temp.

Sometimes a tick at start-up may indicate an exhaust manifold leak, also common a malady. The tick can go away as the engine heats up, causing header expansion. Fairly easy to diagnose for a good mechanic.
Make sure you check if that's a problem first.

If the manifolds are OK then maybe there is not enough lube on lifters at start up. possibly a lubrication problem.
Hence the RedLine Synthetic. Made from Group 5 PAO base, with plenty of Zinc and Moly.

This is just my opinion, there's a hundred more opinions floating around.

All I can say is this is what I have done and problem is gone, at least for now.

Good luck and if you have any other questions, just ask.
Steve
