My third Ram but 1st 5th gen. I pick it up Thursday. Granite 1500 Crew Night with Off Road. 11 miles. I cannot wait. It has level 2 and Alpine with 8.4. I want to add NAV. The dealer says they can flash it for $695. "if it takes the download" Is that true? Some co-workers with '19's and one '20 says they were told no. Has anyone had that done and it worked? My Wife says I have to add it but need to pay excise tax first. Thanks in advance.

Welcome, I’m in Southern NH. I have read that the NAV can no longer be added If not ordered with the truck. But I’m no expert. Maybe for $700 they are replacing the radio.
this website also sells complete setups: https://www.infotainment.com/

Thanks, I found on my Own it cannot be done and Chrysler direct confirmed it. ‘17 and prior could. I called the dealer out on it and they agreed. I had the wife try TomTom go on her iPhone and she was OK with it, so I do not need NAV. It would be nice to have the directions on the 7” driver screen though. Maybe a future upgrade from a salvage yard after the free XM expires. Dealers will tell you anything to make a sale. I am heading to Southern NH right now to get the truck. The only unanswered question is 4Gwifi by subscription. It’s not listed on the sticker with level 2 but my sons 2020 warlock has it. I would like to try it out.

If you or your wife has an iPhone you can use Applecar play, use one of the nav apps (Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps) and it will display everything on the screen and also do the voice directions through the speakers. It’s awesome.

some good videos about the unconnect system here:

It may be a blessing. I have been using an old Garmin (Nav 4) on my motorcycle and have never had problems like the Ram is giving me, so much so that I carry the Garmin if making a trip. You saved $800 :eek:and some possible aggravation. I think anybody with a little technology knowledge would not spend the $$ and use one of the many options available.
The additional $800 does get you a different bezel around the radio.
FYI

Here it is. What a great drive home. It certainly needs a tire balance which I will have done at my local dealer. I love the built in sauce holder!

I drove thru the Allen Mello lot last night and saw your truck all parked alone by itself in the back. Beautiful truck. Congrats!

Thanks. I was giddy this morning when I pulled in Seeing it all glossed up. I do not know what they used but I drove home through 3 downpours and its still spotless. I am very pleased With them. In and out in 30 mins. They played no games and my time was their priority. They forgot the inspection sticker but quickly resolved that. Highly recommended! 21 MPG over 300 miles on a truck starting with 15 miles was amazing, especially with 3.92s. 75mph the whole way home. My sons 2020 stock warlock Hemi with 3.21s gets 14-15 on the highway. BTW they have a ’20 granite Crew north edition 6’4” with the bed package, 20’s, 3.92s and level 2 for $44.7. It’s got a nearly $54k sticker. If you have a competitive truck it’s another $1000 off that number. That was my first choice but Being 20” longer than my suburban concerned me for my wifes parking ability.

Great to hear they were easy to deal with. They could give you an inspection sticker for Maine? Or do you mean they forgot a NH sticker?

I’m waiting on my order (see signature). It was built earlier this week and should be shipping to Maryland any day now if not already in transit. Hoping to pick it up in August. Also hoping for better rebates!

I know. I was debating waiting but selections are so thin. This was exactly what I wanted and priced below rebate value. Good luck with your order. Maine allows out of State inspection stickers until they expire for vehicles brought from out of State. So it has an NH one for the next 12 months. I cannot wait to pay my 2.4% excise tax based on MSRP.

O that’s pretty cool. I need to look into any issues I might have driving back from MD with a MD temp plate. Might have to get plates before I go. Plus the travel restrictions keep getting a bit more difficult. Luckily it’s not too far and I have family 1/2 way.

What's up! I'm from Southern NH. (In Vegas now though). Personally I wouldn't bother adding the Nav for that price, especially since what you have comes with Android Auto which is actually more accurate and up to date more often than the in-vehicle Nav systems.

I am not familiar with Maine's tax system. I did a little research and sales tax would be 5.5% along with the excise tax of 2.4% which is paid each year decreasing in percent (1.75%, 1.35%, 1%, .6% ) to .4% the 6th year and there after.
So a $50,000 vehicle would be $200 for the 6th and following years.
Appears there is a tax incentive to keep old model cars.
Is it similar in New Hampshire, as I recall having a discussion about this with a friend many years back?

It is similar in NH, but not an extra tax and no sales tax. It’s all handled during registration each year, which occurs during the birthday month of the person named on the registration. The reg fees are based on the MSRP of the vehicle (not what you paid) and reduce each year it ages until some minimum.

My birthday is September and all the cars are in my name. So this year will be super fun. I suspect the Ram reg will be ~$1100, my other two cars being older will probably be like $150 each. Plus I need to have them all inspected which is $45/ car. If I get the Ram in Aug and do the reg it will be even more as they will calc it for 13 months....

I guess NYC isn't that bad. 8.875% (1.15% do to mini mike bloombucks "I should be POTUS") up front and registration based on weight. 2 year registration for my 2001 Dodge Ram SLT was 180.50 (includes $30.00 road use tax) in 2018 and vehicle inspection is $37.00 per year, less on old and new vehicles (different inspection). The 2019 Ram because it is a new vehicle (title, plates, road use) was about $290.00. I don't know the exact amount or break down as the dealer registered the vehicle and over charged ($400) and was supposed to send excess back. The excess was sent back problem free with my 2017 Honda Civic from the dealership, not so much with the Ram dealership.

I hope Cuomo (or for that matter any NYS politician) does not read the forum. Right now it appears they are whacking the construction industry/businesses with covid regulations and fines. A couple of small businesses that I interact with fear a $10,000 fine for some form of violation.

That's some birthday gift. All I want for my birthday is someone to pay my registrations???????

Yup. For the current model year is $18/Thousand MSRP plus other stuff (plate fee, etc). So my truck is $58k MSRP.....
I remember when I got my 2014 Forester too it was close to $500 ish. It’s like an extra car payment or two!
Everyone says it’s great not having sales tax In NH. The reality is they get the money one way or the other. My property taxes are $22-$23/thousand. But it’s the only real tax folks think they pay.

I could put a vehicle in my wife’s name but it’s a hassle to redo the title since they are paid off, and honestly I just like planning for it knowing it’s happening in the same month. Just get them all done.

When I was in Mass they damn town excise would just show up randomly whenever they deduced they needed money (at least that’s how it seemed).

There always seems to be a trade off. I remember in NH that each year vehicle registrations would decrease a little in cost... Here in Vegas it's based on what the MSRP was. So my reg costs will always be about $650 every year....smh.

Ouch. Yeah in NH its like $18/thousand, then $15/thousand, then I think $12, $8, $5 and then it bottoms out and can't be less than a certain dollar amount.
So by the 3rd or 4th year its quite a bit less.
