Has anyone installed proper midbass 6x9s in the doors?

Doing my research here before I begin my audio upgrade journey and i found the front door speakers are functioning only as midbass. Some people have swapped them out with full range 6x9s but that doesnt seem like the best approach. Wouldnt something like this perform much better in this application?

Question is, will swapping speakers even do anything? How do you know the amplifier isn't doing a crossover and forcing only mid-range to the front doors? I've never heard of only mid-range speakers, but I suppose it's possible they spec'd those speakers with built-in hardware crossovers as well.

The amp is doing a crossover. That is the point of my question. Putting a full range speaker in there is no efficient because only the woofer will be used.

The rear doors are full range front doors are not.

it looks like you are on the right track if you have an Alpine system as the front speakers door locations receive a low frequency from the amp and not a full range signal. However the speaker you linked is a 4 inch mount depth I believe only a 3.25 depth will fit the stock locations.

My dealer doesn't know if the TSB flash has or has not been used. But I know the sound could be a lot fuller with far better imaging. I am considering purchasing a new amp and speakers- given the cross-over mentions above. Does anyone recommend a particular unit that would not be too difficult to install? What would be the perfect compromise between using some of the pre-existing hardware? Price matters, but with such an expensive truck, getting the right mix of performance and bang for the buck is more important. Again, I have anover-based (not tight base) and under-imaged system, with sounds coming predominately from the left front speaker. I would like some highs from the front doors and a tighter base (e.g., many Ram drivers are not 18 year old who just likes loud and thumping sounds). Cheers for any advice!!

The rear on the HK are crossed at about 600hz and are not full range. Wish they were.

I put in the infinity component 6x9s in the front. Bought them on Amazon for $99. Sold the tweeters and crossovers on eBay for $40. If you can do the same, it's a steal.

They sound really good and definitely increased the overall bass response. I had already opened a set of Infinity 3 way 6x9s for the rear otherwise I would have gotten a second set of components and matched up the front.

It'll be fine. I couldn't tell a significant difference between the component 6x9 and 3 way 6x9. Both were infinity. The 3 way just won't play the highs. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the upgrade. I was.

My Kicker 43DSC69304 fit the front doors. 3-1/4" mount depth according to crutchfield (I didn't actually measure before I put them in).

After looking for them on e-bay, etc., I found another forum saying the Metra 72-6514 is the replacement adapter, but that the Polarity is reversed from the 71-050. For anyone who has installed the doors, and used the 72-6514, were you re-pinning them, cutting the connectors off and swapping polarity, installing as is, etc.

Just repin them as necessary. I personally matched up the speakers to how the factory ones were wired.

I took each speaker out, noted which factory wire hooked to each terminal on the factory speaker, then tested the speaker with a battery to correctly identify which terminal was the positive, and finally swapped the Metra pins as necessary to ensure the set up was the same.

I'd suggest doing it this way to ensure you have it the same as it came from the factory to avoid noise problems.

HK system (and I believe Alpine) do not have fill range rear 6x9s. Instead, the 3.5s in the headliner cover the highs and mids.

Everything I'm reading is that they are subs front and back on the Alpine. If I find they are not just subs, I can always install in the front.
