H8 Group battery install

I'm on the H8 AGM bandwagon. I bought mine from SAM's club they even installed it for me, just about 1 year ago. I have the plastic part and the orginal battery blanket in a lip lock bag. I did buy the H8 battery blanket from the dealer's parts shop. I did have a few electrical blips, but those are well documented. The next day, the little blips were all gone. Now, when I was in the research mode, there were a few posts on various forums how there was a potetnial for damage that could be done with the bigger battery. I have not noted any problems in the year I have had the new battery in the truck.
IMHO - I would fully recommend.

Get an H7 anti gravity battery. It has more AMPs than any H8. I have one and it’s amazing. Expensive but really good.

That's expensive, even for a lithium battery. Which also don't work well in the cold.

My understand is that they aren’t the best if you live in a very cold environment and park outside. I live in the Midwest and it gets cold but I always park inside and even if I didn’t it wouldn’t be outside for weeks or anything. I haven’t had any issues yet and it’s amazingly lighter than stock.

I just had to replace my battery. 21 1500 Bighorn etorque. Turned it on after and it threw a check engine, traction control, stop/start, and "temporary 4wd disabled". After letting it warm up (it's very cold here now, as are a lot of places), and then a couple stop/start cycles (waiting some time between each), the check engine light is out but the others warnings remain. Tested 4wd, it works fine, but still says it's disabled on restart. Didn't have time to leave it disconnected, it's actually not at my house. Tried the two fingered salute uconnect reboot with no change in behavior. Hoping it will clear itself over the next couple days but my wife's Grand Cherokee did the same crap and never cleared. It cleared after she got it repaired after hitting a deer though. Maybe that's because the battery was disconnected for an extended period.

I like all of the features on modern vehicles, but what happened to the days where you could simply replace a battery and be on your way? So much these days is just a constant battle.

I'd appreciate hearing if anyone has any ideas on how to clear these codes. Maybe it just needs disconnected for a while?

Thanks!

Replaced my factory battery last month in my 19'. Wasn't having any issues, just did it as a precautionary due to the age. Replaced it with a regular lead/acid H8 Interstate battery, don't have e-torque or auto start thank god. I'm glad I did as we have been having negative 10-20 degree windchill days and it starts great even sitting in those temps all day. I haven't had great luck with AGM batteries so I just stick with lead/acid.

My 19 was replaced in 22. You got lucky!

so does the plastic piece at the bottom simply pop out or do i have to cut it? i’m not understanding

Can't remember if it just pops out of if there is a bolt holding it in. Either way, it's easy to remove once you have the battery out .

It's honestly not that big of an issue to just wait a few hours for everything to come back online.
I replaced mine at night. Went to sleep. Woke up next day and everything was normal :ROFLMAO:

There's a locking tab you push/pull to release it - lifts right out.

I just replaced my batteries on my 2026 today after reading the post on the 2025+ trucks. I went with the ever start H8 and had no issues. This removes the aux battery from the truck and eliminates the auto start stop feature, which is good. That plastic tab in the tray I popped out, I think it broke at the bottom but who cares.

If I remember right it's #5 in this diagram, and it goes where I drew the red circle. Pull that out, and the H8 fits no problem.

The part in question is circled in red. It is at the bottom of the tray towards the firewall end of the tray. If you are careful, it helps to have a light source and gently remove part intact. The battery blanket will not fit. Mopar does make a factory H8 size blanket. I bought the blanket from my dealer's parts dept. I think it's a hellcat, Jeep, and the high-dollar p/u with the 6.4 Hemi installed will have the blanket installed, aka the factory part number. As I do not have that number on hand, I got the part and then got rid of that info as it was a one-and-done replacement.
I hope this helps.
