Hello,

I have an 8.4” Uconnect 4 radio using CarPlay with an iPhone 12 and Waze. Weird things happen with my Waze app sometimes. It will only show a blue dot on the screen, and not show that I’m moving. Sometimes I can force close it on my phone and it will start tracking. Sometimes I have to unplug the usb cable and plug it back in to get it to work.

Anyone have this problem?

Thanks

I'm not an Apple fan - or an Apple user - but it sounds like the data cable might be faulty. If you haven't done so, I'd first try using a new Apple or high quality cable & see how that works.

thanks for the suggestion. I have. I even switched to the usb c version branded Apple cable. It didn’t help.

Have you tried using a different USB receptacle in the truck - maybe the one on the rear of the console?

I can try that. I always thought the rear ones were charging only.

Mine is the same. I only use waze and sometimes I have to force close it on the phone to get it to pick up on my location and start moving. I’ve tried different ports and cables and it still does it. Even tried a different iPhone and it’s the same. I had the same issue in a cherokee I had so I just learned to live with it. I believe it’s a uconnect issue as I don’t have the same issue in my wife’s explorer

Thanks. I haven’t tried switching back to google maps, but I don’t ever remember seeing the issue on there.

Is is true that once your phone is plugged in, the app will use the shark fin gps instead of the phone?

Waze had no GPS this morning. I force closed the app and relaunched, still no good. I then swapped the cable over to the left rear USB and started working immediately. I'll stay on that port for awhile and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

Update: it still has the issue on the left rear usb as well. I switched back to the front usb. This morning no gps location in Waze, google maps, or Apple Maps. Force closing doesn’t fix. I unplugged the cable and plugged back in and everything started working again.

But then the volume knob wasn’t working. I had sound from Spotify, but couldn’t adjust it. I turned off the radio and turned it back on and that started working as well.

My location in Waze was way off Sunday when I went on a road trip. I was on the highway and it was showing I was on another road and kept trying to reroute me to get on the highway I was already on. I also noticed that the speedometer in ways was wrong. I did just put larger tires on the truck, but haven’t changed in Alfa yet, so I’m wondering if the conflict between the trucks speedometer and the phones gps may have been causing this. When I disconnected the phone and used Waze as a handheld in the truck it was fine, but went wonky when I reconnected it again.
