Very little protection from that, they’re real tight to the underside of the door.

Love the D6 steps, but were a b@tch to install by yourself. Had to balance on my chest/stomach while I got the brackets lined up to bolt on. Helps to get the front and back brakets secure first then the middle bracket last.

Heres another tip: when tightening, push up on the board as hard as you can and it will hug the rocker panel to close the ugly gap. Also, there is also fore and aft adjustments for the boards, so get them lined up just right before tightening them down.

I have it narrowed down to these two as well. Is the only difference the DSS is narrower than the D6? Or am I missing something?

Yes. The DSS is narrow. More of a rock slider look and I’d guess a bit to small to use as a reliable step especially in wet or snowy conditions. I’d say even my D6 is on the narrow end but good enough. I didn’t want running boards that made the truck even wider.

I found a small wire wheel attached to a drill worked best for me over a thread chaser. Picked one up from the local hardware store and was about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter.

I'm certain I've seen a specification for the die to clean the factory paint overspray from the running board threads, and I'm certain I can't find the info now that I need it. What have you used to clean the threads? Thanks.

Good call and Love the wheels! Black rhino dugger? Once my stock tires are toast I’ll be trying to get my hands on a set of those with some duratracs!

I really like the look of them & I’ve already used one as a rock rail when I scratched it up a few weeks ago. They’re more of a “toe step” than a ”foot step” though.

I just installed my D6 this morning. The first pair that were ordered were dented during shipping at the tip of the outer rail, like it got dropped upright. Needless to say, I was shipped another pair and told to keep or toss the originals. If someone is looking to have them Linex’d/Rhino lined/ etc., I would make you a sweet deal. Let me know if you want pictures. I don’t want/ need a second pair taking up space in my garage.

I love my D6 boards.

If you want them to last, I would highly recommend Line-X prior to installing (this is what I did). The finish is meh, they are not aluminum, and the inside of the tubes are raw metal. With that being said, I couldn't be happier with my decision.
