Bought and received kicker 6x9 and 3.5 speakers to upgrade the factory stock ones. I keep telling myself that I'm not going to do much to the truck, but I like loud music.
So I've finished the install, took about an hour or so total. How audio sounds and appeals to someone is subjective, but the amount of high frequency treble is almost unbearable. The sound stage is dominated by it, and 3.5"s are most of the problem. In hindsight I would have looked for speaker without tweeters and sacrificed audio quality for a fuller sound. The ram u connect doesn't let you tune /fade the 3.5 separate from the front door speakers so there isn't much room for adjustment.
So I couldn't take it. Targeting an 8dB drop I soldered a 10 ohm jumper together an installed them in line with the 3.5"s. Much better.
Its about a 50% drop in volume and moves the height of the center stage down.
yeah ya kinda need to go all out an add a aftermarket amp if you want it to sound good. the stock setup is not bad. i feel like replacing the stock speakers without adding a amp or two is not a good idea. i sorta tried it doing my install in stages replacing the speakers was a step back IMO it sounded bad till i amplified them and had control over the levels. you may feel different.
