Breaking in my 2019 laramie at almost 3000 miles.

This maybe a stupid question and I apologize for that, but maybe can get some insight as this is in the back of my brain.

So my truck has a 33 gallon fuel tank which I wanted. Recently I filled up and I ran the fuel real low, in fact my digital dash said zero and I still drove it for a bit.

I filled up and just got 28.5 gallons of fuel in the tank. Is there any possibility the factory didnt put the right fuel tank in?

Secondly I also have the VVT engine upgrade, on the 2020 models it has the big silver box looking thing.

I popped my hood and I do not have that, was there a change between 19 and 20? I wouldn't think so?

Both listed on my window sticker so I paid for them, just looking for your thoughts.

Thanks for taking the time to answer

vvt is variable valve timing i think. The silver box is etorque 2 different things. Not sure on how to tell you have the 33 gal tank but guessing you do if you got 28 plus gal in. Guessing your empty sensor is telling you out before you really are.

You didn't get ripped off, you're just confusing things. All current 5.7L Hemi engines are VVT (Variable Valve Timing). You are thinking of eTorque. With eTorque you get the generator instead of an alternator. You have a VVT engine, but not eTorque.
If you stuffed 28.5 gallons of fuel into your tank you have the 33 gallon tank. Then next size down is 26 gallons, and I can tell you from experience that I've never gotten more than 22 gallons into it, even when below empty on the gauge.

Edit: Sorry eyeguy, I must have started my reply before you saved yours. Didn't mean to parrot you LOL

In my experience with the fuel tank, there’s usually a reserve amount, usually a couple gallons, even when the instrument cluster shows zero miles remaining.

It’s like that on my Accord and my Ram.

Just filled up a few hours ago. Fuel light came on with 50 miles to go and I filled up with 22.016 gals. with mpg at 20.5 for truck calculator and 20.22 hand calculated. Continuing at 20 mpg for the next 50 miles the fuel tank warning should read 0. That would be 2 1/2 gallons used in the 50 miles. 22 + 2 1/2 = 24 1/2 gallons.

26 gallon tank minus the 24 1/2 would leave 1 1/2 gallons remaining at 0 miles based on these calculations!
That is assuming the tank will take 26 gallons.
Most fuel ever put in was 23.366 - sorry no record for the fuel light / miles remaining that time.

My fuel light came on the other day with 50-55 miles to empty and I got 21.38 gal in the tank. Thats a pretty good sized reserve. Guess rather have it that way than run out before hit zero.
Mikeru83. No problem. Great mind think alike!
