Front bumper

I recently put a front bumper on and wonder if I can take the piece pictured off? What does this piece do? Am I able to remove it without messing anything up?

That is the active air dam. It lowers above 35mph (I believe) for better “fuel economy.” You can remove it but it will throw a code. Just clear the code and you’ll be good.
