Okay so I have a 2019 ram Big Horn crew cab, I was pulling my bobcat trailer weighs about $3,800 lb empty and I was hauling some office furniture for someone to the scrap yard. The crane operator put the grapple down on the front of my trailer extremely hard for no reason at all but that's either here nor there( what a moron). Then as you can see from the pictures the damage it bent the inside of the my box there's a hump where my axle is in the box it humps up it's not creased there's some very very small faint ripples on the side one by the gas door and then one a little farther back in the passenger side I looked underneath I didn't see much of anything because it's hard to tell of anything unless you take the box off it's at the shop now they say they can fix it for less than the value of the vehicle which I find hard to believe considering the value of the vehicles only 19,000 it goes down the road crooked it's heating up both tires on the driver side front and back now when I drive down the road I'm just worried after they fix it now it's still going to do the same thing and I don't know what I'm going to do I don't think I'll ever be able to pull trailers again or nothing. Wondering if anyone has any experience with having their frame straightened and if it'll fix the issues I'm talking about I have a feeling they're going to end up having to replace the box so far they're saying they don't have to they're going to try and straighten the frame with the box on and pull it up but I don't see it happen and there's just no way cuz the whole thing is kittywampus. They were even saying if they had to replace the frame they could still do that and be under the value of my truck and I don't see how that's possible at all I guess they're saying if there wasn't no paint that had to be done unless they have to replace the box then that's like 8,000 with paint and then they still have to straighten out the frame they have to replace the trailer hitch I'm just confused I thought that when these frames got bent they were done.

Similar but not similar. I got an accident over a year ago and the shop thought they could fix the frame. Once they put the frame in the straightening jig and started to take the control arms off, they heard it a bunch of pops, pings and cracks and the frame was shot. They still were able to get a replacement frame and drop the body and all the components into a new frame for far less than the total value of the vehicle.

So it’s certainly possible since frames really aren’t all that expensive when they covered by insurance or warranty.

Fortunately, for me a fella, I worked with happened to also work at the body shop and did all of the repairs on my truck. So he sent me pictures while he was doing them.IMG_1614.jpegIMG_1616.jpeg

Wow that's crazy , how many miles did you have? I have 110,000 so mines only worth like 19

Replacing the frame isn't a big thing, and.nkt as expensive as most people think it is. Personally, I'd ask the shop to do that route because you are concerned the frame strength is compromised, and you won't feel comfortable pulling a trailer with a repaired frame

Once I heard about the problems my friend described w/ the frame I was very happy they replaced it. Obviously I have been concerned about resale value, but at the end of the day, I know the brand new frame is going to keep my family as safe as a brand new truck’s frame. And that matters more than my trade-in dollars
