Former F-150 owners: what do you miss?

Not much. My list of things I like better on the RAM is much longer.
-Door Keypad
-Low RPM torque from the twin turbo's
-I missed the console shifter at first, but have grown to love the dial.
-MPG
Welp, that's about it.

I never had an F-150 but a friend had a Limited with massage seat. I only sat in it for a few minutes, but I could see that being nice on a road trip.

I did however have a 2013 Ford Fusion before my 2019 Laramie. I don’t miss much about that car, but as others mentioned, the keypad is nice. I’ll go backpacking for a few days at a time, and it’s nice to be able to leave my keys in the vehicle rather than risk losing them on the trail.

I didn't own one, but drove a friend's 2018 F-150 Platinum for about a month in 2018 while he was out of the country.

Compared to my Ram with the V6, the ecoBoost was a lot more fun. The only other thing I really liked was the massage seat, everything else was either a wash or tilted in the Ram's favor. There's a reason why I got a DT in late 2018 instead of a F-150!

Well, I have never owned Ford, but I agree with a lot of previous posts that the door keypad would be pretty handy. My last vehicle was a 2014 Silverado 5.3L. Can honestly say the only things I miss about that truck were the rear bumper steps and easier oil changes.

My Bighorn is way more powerful, better fuel economy, quieter, better ride, better interior....well, pretty much better everything.

However, the biggest difference has been having the Ram dealer 3 minutes from my house. The nearest Chevy dealer was almost an hour away, and I always felt like an inconvenience to them bringing my truck in to them for work. End of the day, the local dealership and personal relationship with the service department has been huge.

I previously had a 2014 FX4 Lariat 3.5 ecoboost that was pretty much decked out with everything except a sun roof. About 4 months ago I purchased a 2021 Bighorn night edition etorque.

-Biggest thing I miss by far is the exterior keypad. I am still not used to actually having to take the key out of the truck. That being said, the push button start on the Ram is pretty cool.
-Second biggest thing is the leather. I himmed and hawed over the bighorn and the laramie and I honestly wish I went with the laramie. I will be putting in Katzkin leather seats probably this fall, if not spring. I thought I could get used to the cloth, but I much prefer leather. Then I will complain about not having cooled seats anymore ahah
- Third would be the ford tow mirrors. They were huge and power extending and fold in. My new mirrors have power fold, but the bubble is too small to be worth anything. The ford mirrors took some getting used to, but once you did they were awesome!


That is pretty much it. I thought I would see a huge drop off in MPG but I really haven't. As soon as you tow anything with the ecoboost the MPG goes out the window. I also had 130K miles on my ford by the end so maybe that had something to do with it, idk. Either way, I am glad that I have a v8 now. I averaged 15.7 mpg over the course of my fords life and I am currently at 19.1 with 9K miles on my Ram, but I havent towed much yet. I can still pass going from 60 to 80 very fast without the twin turbos, dont really miss them at all. I also think its pretty crazy that I had a pretty high end ford and I moved to a fairly low end Ram and I have the same amount of features, if not more in my new truck. 7 years of advancement definitely accounts for most of that, but still pretty awesome.

I definitely like the look of the rams better, especially compared to the 2014 iteration of the F150. I feel like I went from an old man truck to a young guy truck. I'm 28, so I prefer the young guy look haha

I also miss the rear seat split. Why Ram would have the split be opposite of the Fords, so the driver can only lift up one rear seat instead of 2, makes no sense to me. It seems like it will always be more inconvenient for the driver. When I am going on a hunting trip or camping trip, I put the back seat up and put everything on the floor. Now I have to load up on the passenger side to get enough room. Annoying.

Having the smaller section on the driver side means I can easily reach and lift both sides from the driver side. With the larger section on the passenger side, it's quite a stretch to reach the driver side to lift it up from the passenger side. Makes more sense to me the way Ram does it.

That's a fair point and that's probably why they did it that way. The vast majority of the time I put my back seat up I would only put up 60%. I cant remember a time that I needed to put up both sides at the same time. But if I were Ram, I think that is a fair rationale of why they did it that way, probably does make more sense. Just more annoying for myself.

Not that I hate my RAM, this is just a list of things I liked better about my previous F150's.

- Console shifter
- Door Keypad
- Acceleration / pulling power (towing)
- Fuel Mileage
- Higher payload
- Ford Phone App
- Auto Climate control: While my RAM's AC works great -knock on wood- the climate control does not hold the temp it is set to and we are constantly chasing it.. my previous Ford's were mostly set it and forget it.

I will echo what most have said....door keypad. Damn I miss that.

Also massaging seats would be nice. My Limited is a grand touring towing machine, long distances are its bread and butter. Massaging seats would make the long trips just that much better.

Switched from a 2010 Harley Edition to my 2021 Ram. I never used the keypad on the Ford. LED turn signals on the bottom of the outside mirrors burned out randomly over the first couple of years. Seats were actually cooled, weirdest feeling, like ones bottom was getting wet in a cold breeze. The A/C was a little annoying, driving with windows down and see that the Ford's had switched from one mode to A/C on its own, no way to turn it completely OFF. Step in tailgate was way better. Underside of rear seats had four grocery hooks instead of two on the Ram. Drivers side windshield pillar is more noticeable on the Ram than the Ford or my wife's Miata, but that is just me because there is a long curve in a road where the local constabulary likes sit and you cannot see them as you come around through the curve . Shift knob is a pain, but the lack of a shifter makes for a lot more room in the console. Console also looks wider on the Ram. The Ram's mileage is horrible, but I think that was due to COVID, had to sit in the truck with heat or A/C on to eat fast food. May take a while to check if the mileage gets better, I only have 3k miles on the Ram since December 19th. The Ford was a 5.4L and went 10k to 15k miles a year commuter while the Ram is a "everything is within a mile, retirement truck. Accelerator on the Ram is horrible, the Ford could drift in or out of a parking space without using the accelerator pedal, whereas the Ram's pedal is so touchy. Ford backup camera was older and only had straight lines and not curving like on newer vehicles. Ram's rearview camera "mirror" is awesome. I have never liked auto dimming mirrors since the day the appeared, give me a flip knob on it instead.

BUT..... I would have gotten the Ford for the seats, a 7kW 120V power source and several other unique options. But Ford could not tell me when the truck would come in if I ordered one. Urge to buy a new truck was too great to wait, and I glad I did not wait.

But..... I am very pleased with the Ram.... so far.

Well, we still have the Ford--a 1996 F-150, so there's nothing to miss.

We kept it because it's personal value is greater than its sales value. It's got an 8' bed and about 47K miles. It's our "work truck" though not really set up for towing. I realized recently that it still has the original spare tire underneath. It would probably crumble to dust if we took it out and set it on the ground.

I would be worried that someone is watching me type it in, then now they can get into my truck and take whatever they want, without even breaking a window.

Don't like stuff in my pocket. Wife can "go to the truck" without getting my keys first. My wife had a code, my dad had a code. When my dad and I are hunting if he gets to the truck before me he punches his code and heads to the camp. Comes pick me up later. Better than putting the keys in the tailpipe lol.

My house flooded in 2016. I had to evacuate by boat to a friend's house. I had my inlaws lined up to come pick us up. My buddy told me to take his truck to where I was meeting them and just hide his keys and lock it with the keypad. He went by about 6 hours later and got his truck. I mean that is cool.

Had a 2006 Lariat Super Crew before my Ram. Liked that it never left me stranded. Decent factory sound system, with the old 6 CD/MP3 DISC changer and sub-woofer.

Dislike, 5.4 Triton first spark plug change, all 8 plugs broke. Had to use the Lisle extractor tool to remove them from the heads. Ford forgot to use high temp anti-seize on the ground shield. TSB issued later on.

This is my first non Ford truck since I traded my GMC for an F150 in ‘96. I’ve had 5 F150 trucks since then. I miss the keypad, and I miss some things about Ford Sync. Pretty much everything else is even or better on my Ram. It is definately more comfortable than my 2015 F150, which my wife currently is driving.

The console design on this Ram is light years ahead of any other vehicle I have ever been in. So much functional space, and not cluttered by a console shifter.
I like the rear seat split because it makes it easier to reach something in the back seat from the driver‘s seat if it is behind the passenger seat.

Thanks for posting that! I thought you had to lift the lever in front of the seat to fold them up. That's how it worked in my Tundra. When you said you could fold up both seats from the driver side, it dawned on me that you didn't. I realize that lever is used to recline the rear seats, but I also thought it released the seats so they could be folded.
