First time Ram owner - Haunted Truck

Had always been an F-150 guy until I took the Ram for a test drive. Classy truck - have about 2k miles on it since bringing it home late September. Hemi engine & getting better gas mileage than my 6 cyl 150! Have an issue though - hopefully someone here can shed some light on. Have an interior humming sound that seems to be coming from the overhead area just behind the front passenger seat. I have to drive it 20-30 miles for it to start - it lasts for 2-5 seconds then goes away. Comes back every couple of minutes, lasts about 2-5 seconds then goes away. To me it seems like a 'harmonics issue' for lack of a better term. It's not a vibration that I can feel thru the steering wheel. Happens with radio on or off. Happens between 30-65 miles an hour, Smooth or rough road no difference Does not happen right from the start - it's like it has to 'build up' before it starts. Took the tech guy from the dealership on a 20 mile road trip - of course it did not make a sound. Dropped him off - I drove it another 20-30 miles and it did it 3 times before I could get back to the dealership. Took the tech for a ride and he was finally able to hear it. Only problem is they are stumped as to what it could be. They are a good dealership but this is aggravating to say the least. Anyone out there having the same issue and/or solution??

Sounds like the noise cancelling system. Several others on the forum have had issues with it.

Sounds similar to the sounds from my truck. The dealer reset my atmm(auto tuned mass modules) and the anc(active noise cancellation) system. Sound went away for a week or so, came back when I had 3 people in the back seat (added weight in the back seat seemed to cause it for me). Dealer is now going to replace the Atmm's. Another member here had his atmm's replaced and seemed to do the trick. Hope this helps.

Sounds like the noise cancelling system. Several others on the forum have had issues with it.

Could it be a climate control sensor? I know some of them contain small plastic fans to draw air samples...

Could the sound you're hearing be the truck going from V4 to V8 mode? Because that has a very similar sound and feel that you're describing, a "humming" that is slight then builds up and stops after it's fully into V8 mode. Try turning on your "eco" notification and when you hear the sound watch to see if the eco light turns off right after the sound goes away. If this is the case then your mass modules may need to be recalibrated, I think there's a TSB for that.

Interesting. I’ve never heard my MDS kick in. Guess is the ‘benefit’ of shooting way too many full-auto weapons without adequate earpro :O

That sound usually comes from the front, I hear mds kick on and off every time like a low rumble if my radio volume is low enough.

Just a thought, rumbling and humming are usually pretty low frequencies so its hard to track them down. Might sound like its coming from one area but in reality its a totally different part of the truck. That's why subs don't have to be centrally located to sound good.

Fair enough but it sounds to me like it is coming from the engine bay in mine.

I have a brand new Ram Big Horn 4x4 I purchased this last weekend. This happened to me on my way to work. Lasted all the way to work and when I cranked the truck up at lunch it was gone. I believe this is the issue but will see if I can get it checked out.

I bought my truck on Saturday. When leaving work today I started my truck and was sitting there for a minute when I heard this deep humming/ howling sound. Heard it before putting it into drive. Put it into drive and drove away when it started up again. Kept driving. Accelerating and decelerating seemed to change the pitch here and there but didn’t seem to be the cause of the issue. Rolled my drivers window a bit and it seemed to dissipate then stop. Rolled window back up and it would start again, fading in and out. After a couple more miles I pulled into a parking lot and shut the truck off waited a minute then restarted. Issue went away and did not happen the rest of the way home..... Noise cancellation system? Mystery. I will contact the dealership if it continues.

EVERYONE - Have an appointment with the dealership tomorrow to have the 'modules' replaced. Will post results after I have driven it a few days. Thanks for all the suggestions.
