I have a 2019 ram 1500 that originally had an 8.4 non nav radio, my radio went out, and I replaced it with a 12” uconnect 5 out of a 2023 2500. Everything is working with the exception of downloading apps and being able to update it the firmware. Would this be because it sees the vin# as an older truck? Because when I do try to update firmware with usb it says not compatible with vehicle.

Your VIN only shows what you had from factory, thus the updates you get when using your VIN as reference are going to be updates for the 8.4" radio. Use the VIN from the donor vehicle to get your updates for the 12".

I don't think the UC updates site has worked properly for years anyway so anyone not getting OTA updates for whatever reason, or anyone that's retrofitted a different radio will have to get your (correct) updates from one of the unofficial repos.

Dealerships can also download the updates via their tools. Just need a dealership to know what they are doing and willing to help. We can get updates from Uconnect's site, that's how we provide updates for the radios we sell to anyone that requests one for a radio purchased from us. We only do it for the ones we sell.
