After looking for awhile, I finally found an official chart for towing and payload capacities for my 24 1500. It's in the downloadable Buyers Guide pdf on the ramtrucks website, near the end of the document

Yeah, the only problem is those are generic capacities for a truck with zero options. Depending on what trim you have (and what options are included on your trim), your capacities will vary from "a little less" to "a lot less" than what's shown on the brochure. As @Pribilof mentioned, your door sticker will tell you what your real payload capacity is (as configured from the factory). If you've added your own items then you'll also need to deduct those from the door sticker payload.

Ram's website has a VIN decoder as well that will tell you your exact truck specs. It was working the last time I looked.

As already said, the chart is near worthless.

So obviously no one has looked at a 24 or newer door sticker. That information is no longer on there .

I’m pretty sure it’s required by law. Can you post a picture?

VIN lookup is very hot or miss. More miss.

Below works for any truck 21+

RAM's towing guide VIN Lookup is broken or offline more often than not.

For newer model year trucks, you may be able to retrieve the data using the following link - adding YOUR VIN to the end:

Then copy that json code (text) and paste it in here:

You'll get a table formatted with your data.

Sample:

{"data":{"brand":{"division":"R","year":{"vin":"3C6TR5EJXRG134158","value":"2024","vehicle":{"bodyModel":"DJ7X91","cpos":"2TP","model_desc":"RAM 2500 REBEL® CREW CAB 4X4 6'4\" BOX","model_long_desc":"RAM 2500 REBEL® CREW CAB 4X4 6'4\" BOX","sales_eng":"ESB","eng_desc":"6.4L V8 Heavy Duty HEMI MDS Engine","eng_long_desc":"6.4L V8 Heavy-Duty HEMI® MDS Engine","sales_transm":"DFX","transm_long_desc":"8-Speed Automatic 8HP75-LCV Transmission","box_code":"XB9","qual_code":"NA ","n_tow_srw_drw":" ","c_opt_srw_drw":" ","axle":{"sales_axle":"DMF","axle_desc":"4.10 Axle Ratio","axle_long_desc":"4.10 Axle Ratio","max_payload":"1479.98","mpi_max_payload":"1610.00","hpims_max_payload":"1479.98","GVWR":"8565","GCWR":"17800.00","BASE_CURB_WT":"6837.82","max_towing":"10587.18","mpi_max_towing":"10470.0","hpims_max_towing":"10714.98","axle_front_wt":"4750","axle_rear_wt":"6200","TOWOPT_PKG":{"code":" ","Description":""}}}},"description":"RAM"},"status":"success"}}

The only thing that's ever been on a door sticker is payload. They don't list towing capacity - though I believe GM now does.

I've never seen a 1/2 ton truck max out towing before payload.

it’s on my 2024 1500 Limited, says 1370lbs

1370 lbs
2 adults = 350 lbs
Only 1020 lbs left for your tongue weight and the weight of your hitch & ball. And these are crew cab trucks so you could have 4 adults in there, leaving you only about 670 lbs of available payload.

Even the example 2500 only has 1480 max payload.

Thank you for the links, this worked! I have been searching for this, since Ram's link went away last year. Question - what is mpi_max_payload, and why is it higher than my door sticker payload?

yep and that still works for me. My trailer loaded comes in at 4100lbs. So I will have plenty of room to play with. For others it probably doesn’t work.
