What is on the exterior of the RAM 1500 windscreen? We had an ice storm overnight. the scraper I used to remove the ice scratched whatever coating is on there. I didn't notice it until the damage was done. I'd live with it but the truck only as 1600 miles on the clock. Glass doesn't scratch that easily so there is something on it. Is there tint put on at the factory? My dealer didn't put tint on. Any advice?

There would be no outside coating like you describe. Tint goes on the inside. Unless it was something for transport, but highly unlikely.

Plastic ice scrapers WILL scratch glass. I've seen it many times when living in MN. I used to always start the vehicle and turn on the defroster to loosen ice before wiping off. Glass of today isn't what it used to be I guess as I've seen side windows and windshields scratched up.

Update, I used a compound and a little bit of pressure on the scratches and was able to remove them. There definitely is some sort of coating on the screen.

I had some clear-coat overspray on the windshield of a previous car (just last year), I thought that a kitchen sponge green scrubbie with lots of water would remove it. Ahem.
I ended up with very scratched up glass, to the point that I replaced the windshield. Wasn't a recent RAM (it was a 2014 Ford) but just saying that windshields have been scratchable for years...

3M colors and materials

I don't know if it was even that aggressive, the back of the yellow kitchen sponges...Either way it scratched the hell out of the windshield.
My lack of common sense amazes even me at times.
Steel wool, some use 0000 steel wool for window cleaning.

The steel wool is less aggressive than the "scubby" pads.

"See, they install that TruCoat at the factory. There's nothing we can do about that."
