Guys, I am new here, I come from the Ford SD side of the world and bought this 2020 Ram 2500 Cummins Limited. All I can say is Wow, I love the truck!

I have the warranty ending at 60k miles (100km) and 90k on the drivetrain.

What seems to be breaking on those trucks? So far, knock on wood, I have little things like loose shifter, tie rod, rattle in dash… Nothing big.

I could purchase an aftermarket insurance, but might not be worth it.

I do all my repairs myself, What would you guys do?

I was never much of an extended warranty person in the past, but I am now. These new vehicles have a crazy amount of electronics. If you are a very experienced electrical engineer, then you might be ok. But even then, the extended warranty would be worth it to not have to chase down some kind electrical ghost issue that pops up. Mechanical is easy. Just a bunch of nuts and bolts that re-assemble in reverse of disassembly. Computer run electronics, that’s a whole different beast.

Depends on your own unique situation.

I have always got them, for my Wife.
I did not want to listen to Jack, if her car acted up, when I was out of town or, worst yet, Home.
OEM Service Contracts insured that if she had a problem, she could it to the service dept, which she already knew how to do for oil changes.
IF overnight, grab arental and go about her Life until they called to say it was ready for pickup.

For myself I never bothered with them until I bought my 1st 1/2 ton. No, I get them every new car. I keep my cars , on average, 15 years or more so get the longest highest mileage service contract I can buy. Older now, do not want to wrench on anything other than kids bikes. Nor do I want unexpected bills, would rather pay up front and be done with it. I am way ahead on this warranty cost benefit thing so don;t think twice about it, anymore.

Buy them, online, for cheap and it only takes one, not even big ticket, item to pay for itself but the absolute best part is the rental allowance, when trucks in teh shop.

If you can swing $3k shop bill, don;t buy one. If a $3k shop would royally anger you, get one. Pay it up front and be doen with it.

I tend to think of them as Life Insurance. i really do not want to use it but I need it, darn glad I got it.

Best situation is to pay for it, never use, waste that little bit of money but, hey, got a gr8 truck with zero worries about getting a bad one or big repair bill.
