Was wondering if anyone on here has had this issue.

Only had my new Ram 1500 from Feb. this year and currently have 10,000 on odo.

Driving home from work today my truck suddenly lost power and glided to the side of the road, once stopped tried repeatedly to re start, It would just turn over as normal but would not fire up and run. Currently engine light now on. Truck was last seen on back of flatbed on route to dealership. Just a side note this did also start this morning when starting truck and had to give the gas pedal a tap to get the truck to ignite and run.

This is my second Ram 1500 and had no issues with my 2016, but several with this model. CURRENTLY

New head unit 12' Uconnect installed Sept.
2 New wing mirrors as both had faulty hinges and would not open and close properly.
and now this!

Has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds like electrical...had a similar experience in my Ford a few years ago. It was either the alternator or battery....can't remember. But since it's at the dealer, they'll be able to diagnose and fix the issue for ya.

I initially though that but even bad gas will get a spark at points and try and ignite. I am getting turn over but no ignition.

Seems more electrical and not bad gas I don't think that would throw an engine code?

Bad gas can throw a code but you'd still get ignition and engine knocking.

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. If you are not able to determine a solution based on suggestions from fellow forum members and you decide to address this with your Ram dealer, please be sure to follow up with us via private message. We would be more than willing to escalate your situation to a specialist who can work alongside you and your dealer while your truck is in service.

Hi Mark

Thanks for reaching out will send you a PM,

As a follow up from the initial post, My dealer first said that the security module was acting up and had that replaced( didn't correct issues)
Have now been told that the PCM has a fault and that's causing it to crank and not fire up. I am disappointed in this truck and looking at getting onto FCA to deal wit this issue.

JUST A QUICK UPDATE.

So!

Truck has been in the dealership now for 10 days and has had a series of tests and parts replaced.

Part 1. Security module replaced, truck started then shut down again( call back to FCA Techs) several more tests later still not running.

Part 2. BCM replaced as not sending out data. replaced ( same as above!!!!)

Part 3. PCM replaced had to wait on authorization from FCA and part sent out programmed to VIN specific. ( truck started ran, turned off then would not start again.( Back to start all over again!!!!)

not to mention the man hrs and costs for the dealership having my truck taking up space in there bay. At what point do I say give up and replace my truck? especially when I hear a mention about wiring harness, This is a big NO from me. Way to much going on now when the truck only has 10,000km on the clock.

Anyone have any advice on how I should proceed.

Is it too late for a lemon law claim in your state?

30 days and 3 repair attempts....then lemon law applies where you can seek a replacement truck...no matter which state you live in. It's a federal law that all states have to abide by if it's a brand new vehicle.

Says he has 10000 KM on the truck, I would guess he's in Canada and they may have different lemon laws.

You are correct, I am in Canada, which sucks as we have to go through a process to have truck taken back and replaced.

I am filling in a case file with FCA today and hopefully things get moving from here. Not to happy with said truck now and dont have full confidence that there will never be another issue with the vehicle.

Will keep you all posted about what happens.

Just a side comment, could you have gotten some really dirty gas and plugged the fuel filter?

JUST A QUICK UPDATE.

So!

Truck has been in the dealership now for 15 days and has had a series of tests and parts replaced.

( truck started ran, turned off then would not start again.( Back to start all over again!!!!) now I don't believe it started at all.

Part 4. All coils replaced and plugs

Part 5. Cam position sensor

All wiring has been checked and ground cables checked, They also scoped the engine today to see if there was an internal spark(but nothing)

Looks like we are back to square one as FCA have advised dealer to check wiring again for the 5th time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so done with Ram now feel like this is obviously getting no where and just replace the truck its obviously a Lemon. ( BUT THANKS TO CANADIAN LAW IT HELPS THE CORPORATIONS AND SHAFTS THE CONSUMERS)

Will keep you updated hopefully something will happen soon.
