Electric vehicle owners continue to report far more problems with their vehicles than owners of conventional cars or hybrids, according to Consumer Reports’ newly released annual car reliability survey.

Consumer Reports' "reliability" ratings, which are widely reported in the media, are a TERRIBLE measure of reliability. They measure "issues." An issue with a stuck glove box gets lumped in and counted similarly to a blown transmission. CR claims to "weight" them appropriately, however, they hide their scoring behind paywalls and other mumbo jumbo, and they are a pay-to-play organization like Yelp, which makes their ratings suspect, at best.

Telsa (the manufacturer of the large majority of EVs) and other new EV entrants are known to have a long list of issues with minor things legacy manufacturers sorted out years ago (wind noise, rattles, stuck latches, paint quality, etc.) These add up to poor "reliability" in CR's rating system.

One thing to take note of, despite their poor "reliability" ratings, EV brands have much higher customer satisfaction numbers than ICE-only brands. How can that possibly be if the cars are terrible as their "reliability" rating would lead you to believe?
