So...The truck has about 4,000 miles on it and recently in the past month it developed a drivetrain noise. At least that's what I think it is. No matter what gear I'm in during acceleration I hear a whine. It starts exactly at 45mph and keeps going until I can't hear it due to wind and road noise. The pitch of the whine goes up as the truck accelerates. In addition the whine is only present when positive torque is applied. Once I take my foot of the gas pedal the noise disappears. I did some research and it seems that people with previous gen rams experienced the same issue and ended up being a bearing in the diff. I am under the assumption that the drivetrain is almost identical to the 7th gen rams. I am just wondering if anybody else is experiencing a similar issue. I will address this with the dealer when I go in for the first service appointment. It's a bit of a disappointment since it's a new vehicle and I should have to deal with something that's not a quick fix. I know cars are not all perfect and I am not expecting it but this bothers me. Thanks

AntiSpin differential?

Edit: you have offroad, so I guess eLocker... ?

I dont have off road package and I have eLocker. Not that its relevant for this post. No whine here tho. I havent used the eLocker yet.

Maybe its whining because it has to live in NYC. I am expecting mine to whine soon as it sits inside the DC Beltway.

Haven't checked. I figured its good since it's brand new.

I haven't exactly searched on it, but I haven't seen a diff whine reported here.

Maybe somebody else knows something.

My Laramie with the 3.92 gears has been making a rear differential gear whine under power at 50 MPH. Doesn't matter what gear the transmission is in. Going up a hill it is particularly noticeable and has become louder as my miles are now 1350. I'm pretty sure it's the differential gears as this is strictly related to speed vehicle, not engine speed. A few MPH before and after 50 MPH the sound doesn't exist that I can hear. When it was new with 6 miles the sound didn't occur. if letting off the throttle or coasting down a hill the sound does not occur in the 50 mph zone.

I will be going to the dealer this Friday for the recall on the brake pedals and steering. I will ask them to take a test drive with the speed of 50 under moderate throttle. This sound is 100% repeatable. I will ask them to verify the gear oil level as part of the diagnosis. At present the whine is loud enough to hear with the radio on and spoils an otherwise very quiet cabin. I fear the gears are not set correctly or a bearing is going out. All of this could be the result of improper oil level in the differential. So far the noise has been increasing with the miles. I am concerned this will continue and possibly result in a failure if not corrected.

I would appreciate giving the dealer a heads up before arriving this Friday.

I have a very similar problem with my Laramie. The only difference my speed is 50 plus or minus 2 mph when the whine occurs. Like you this is only under moderate or heavy throttle and does not happen with very light throttle or coasting. Doesn't matter what gear the trans is in, this is vehicle speed and engine load related. I have an appointment at my dealer this Friday. I will report what they say and would appreciate if you can do the same.

Seems I recall reading about a batch of 2019 RAMs having a similar issue and they were found to have an improper gear oil level from the factory. The trucks verified with this issue had their rear drives replaced with new rear drives instead of repairing the original rear drive under warranty. MY truck was quiet when I picked it up with 6 miles on the clock. I started noticing the whine at about 180 miles and it has continued to get louder to my current mileage of 1380 miles.

My build date is 9/26/18 with a 3.92 gear and no differential locking option.

Hey all,
New to the forum. Just purchased a Laramie Quad cab. Sad to say it's in the shop with a whine that is repeatable on throttle bewteen 46-50 mph. Just want to check in to this thread to see if any resolution has taken place for the affected posters.
The truck is in the shop and the dealer replaced the drive shaft and I was told today that did not fix the whine issue. It basically sounds like the typical rear end whine I have heard on cars past (one actually 2002 Camaro SS).
Not getting too excited yet but will be going on week two starting next Monday. I was provided a loaner. The truck has 400 miles on it and has had this whine/noise from day one. Always repeatable and under throttle.
Any information on this would be greatly appreciated and could possibly help the dealer with final repair.
Otherwise love the truck and miss it not being " home".

Thanks,
ddharris

My truck was sent in for the identical issue. Gear whine between 48 and 52 mph with power applied. No sound on coast. The dealer verified the issue and ordered a new gear set and rear drive bearing kit for the repair. I got the truck after one week. It is much better with only a very faint whine at the same speed. I am satisfied with the repair as long as it doesn't become noisy with miles. The tech reported the gear lash was over the spec at .016 inch. This setup probably damaged the gear set at my mileage of 1400 miles. This seemed to be a competent fix in my case.

My Laramie has the same whine. It starts at 45 MPH though and goes away at 49-50. Only when applying the gas. It seems to come on loud at 45 and tappers off till I get to 51 MPH. I have a 3.92 gear ratio as most of y’all do to. I noticed mine around 180 miles and I’m currently at 3000. I don’t notice it as much since my daily commute is all highway, but on the way to and from I have a 5 mile stretch at 45 that reminds me of the whine. Any reported self fix or deal issues when bringing it in? I’m scheduling my first oil change soon and will bring it up along with my faulty rambox.
