You wouldn't be the first to get outside a mfgs rec on rim widthWell it looks that this isn’t going to happen as my wheels are 18x8 and according to the tire sites I need a minimum of 8.5 width wise.
Guys run 295 wide on 8" wide stock wheels all the time, its worse to exceed the max width than the minimum, how often do you see people stretching 12.50 wide on 12 wide wheels? Looks dumb AF in my opinion but to each their own.Oh really see now you’ve got me thinking about that size again. It seems to be really hard to find a 18” wheel that isn’t black for these DT models.
8.5" didn't sound right as a minimum width for a 295, so I checked to make sure. 295 are approved down to 7.5 wide wheels by toyo, nitto, falken, cepek and cooper for sure. I think you misread the site when it says approved rim widths it looks something like 7.5-[8.5]-10. This is actually telling you 3 things. Minimum rim width is 7.5", maximum rim width is 10". The number in the [ ] brackets means that the listed inflated dimensions of the tire were taken with the tired mounted on a rim of this width. In the case of the 295 70 18 nitto g2 you posted, the width of 11.77 and diameter of 34.29 is based on an 8.5" wheel, they're going to be a little different on your 8 inch wheels. Likely going to be a little narrower and little taller 11.5 x 34.50 would be my guess. Rule of thumb is 1/4" change in tire dimension for 1/2" change in rim size. Hope this helps your tire search.Perfect, now it’s time to start shopping for that sized tire then.![]()
You do realize that the Chevy truck 6 lug is the same, right? Plenty of wheels made for them.... Just saying.Oh really see now you’ve got me thinking about that size again. It seems to be really hard to find a 18” wheel that isn’t black for these DT models.
Just order the same size tires, Nitto Terra Grappler G2’s to go with my Alloy Ion 135’s 18x9 as I wanted a bigger side wall vs a 20” wheel and will be ordering my 3.5” Readylift here soon.I’m looking to go from my current size to this LT 295/70/18 not necessarily in this brand. I’m also running a Mopar 2” lift just in case.View attachment 5886
