Wanting to put some extra power in the back but am not quite sure how to get this panel off. I haven't gone pullling on plastic yet to see what pops off. Wondering if anyone has already done it.

Trim around cup holder pops up and then there are two Phillips screws to unscrew then it pops off

I havent done it... and I know youre looking to hear from someone who has... but my guess is the screws are on top, under the cupholders rubber area.. just my guess...

Because the front area where the radio is, the screws are similarly in that position... under the rubber in the top cubby.

Only because Ive done it before. Added Headrest DVD players rot mine and mounted the box there.

Pictures? Do you have a thread on this? I’m curious with my two young boys....

They both have DVD players. Touchscreens and android for apps. That part sucks though as it runs an old version and most new apps aren't compatible. So I installed an Apple TV and all my movies are through that anyways. So we can watch netflix or directs now while on a trip. Its awesome. Didn't mean to highjack the thread.

Don’t mean to keep hijacking but I really like those headrests and the idea of an AppleTV in the back. I went to the Advent Site to price but couldn’t click on the link from my phone to email them. Care to share how much those run? And do they both use the same source or can you have two different sources, one for each headrest? TIA

I believe they are 1500$ or so new. They are configurable. You can get them as DVD in each headrest or DVD in each headrest with the android touchscreen. Honestly I dont suggest the android because they RUN KitKat and doest support newer apps. So I went the route of the Apple TV because I have one in every room of the house and all of our movies are in iTunes. So as its set up we can watch a dvd in each headrest independent or they can watch the same dvd together or they can watch one with Apple TV and the other with DVD. They come with IR Headphones. Advent owns Invision so the quality of material is OEM. Invision is who manufactured all DVD headrest for Ford and GM like what comes in the Platinum Escalades.

The Apple TV is 120 volt so you can use the inverter if you have on but what I did is convert the internal supply of the Apple TV to a 12volt supply. These can be found on ebay for about $60. Its not that difficult to do and they are a direct install no mods to the Apple TV its awesome and I have not had one single problem with it I have two set up this way. Plus the remote is bluetooth so you can mount the Apple TV anywhere.

The headrest do not have an HDMI input at the control box so I had to buy a HDMI to rca cable. I found on on Amazon and it works incredibly. Its powered with a USB a cable. I also bought a USB power supply and wired it in so this would all be hidden.

Its really awesome. I use either the built in wifi hotspot of the truck or if I am in an area At&T is not available I switch to my Verizon hotspot in my console. Between them I have been covered going to anywhere I have been. If you aren't then you have DVD as a failsafe.

Thank you for the detailed info. I really like this setup and it’s very clean but I guess it seems hard for me to justify at that price. At $1500+ I could buy 5 iPads and store them in the center console.

Truth.

It is true. What also is true is they have to hold them and charge them and have data plans on each one and if you have three kids Like I do they have phones also. We just went on a26 hour trip for Christmas and that is a long trip for holding iPads. Also a data access for unlimited data a month per person. And then in areas of no cell coverage. The list goes on. So you can nickel and dime yourself on cell data plans at 20 - 30 a month x 5 and even if you buy wifi iPads with no data plan and then use the truck hot spot 5 iPads will eat up 22GB in a heartbeat and after the high speed allotment is gone its unusable.

With my hotspots I have the Att stream saver that doesn't count towards my data allotment and same with Verizon.

I have one device using data and that is the Apple TV. The kids each have a phone that can also airplay to the Apple TV in a pinch incase we were by some reason to go over our data on the hotspot. My kids will have phones as its a necessity for them. iPads are not.

One other thing is these headrest can be moved to a new vehicle. you just have to buy new headrest buns that are about $150-$200. So if you use them for a few years and buy a new truck the electronics transfer. Ive never had a vehicle without them.

A less expensive option is this. These are in my 13 RAM. These are about 100 each they don't look as OEM but they work very well. I have an Apple TV in here also. I have about $400 total in this setup. The screens have HDMI inputs. I also have it setup to play on the front screen in this truck. This setup has no DVD option installed. You can buy a used Apple TV 4th gen for about 100$ on ebay. Ive never bought a new Apple TV. IMG_0179.jpeg

Don’t get me wrong I really like that setup and I think it looks great and we use AppleTV’s in every room as well so it would be a great continuation but at that price point it’s just not for me. I have 3 kids as well and depending on where we are going and who might be riding with us it’s a coin flip on whether we take my wife’s minivan (w/ built in entertainment) or my truck.

Has everyone noticed that the cup holders on the rear of the console are notched out so that you can slide an iPad (or other 10 inch tablet) in there in portrait mode?

On our most recent trip we used that and paired it to bluetooth to play over the stereo. It worked pretty well but at one point I wanted to listen to football so that won’t work for me in the long run. I am going to buy this guy (link below) and look at hardwiring it to 12v in the console so we could just plug it in to the audio jack on the iPad if the kids all want to watch the same thing and use the IR headphones from my wife’s minivan and if it works out I’ll get a new set of three to keep in the truck.

I dont give mine wifi in the truck. download movies and books before we leave or be bored!
