I wanted to paint the black plastic “HEMI 5.7” part of my hood emblem.

I did not see a thread on this and yes I searched.

the process is super easy and takes a few minutes drying time.

I did not paint the the black around the “1500” but the option is there with a few more steps.

pics-
1 stock emblem in place
2 emblem removed- use a trim tool and work around the edges till it pops out
3 emblem ready to be disassembled
4 the seven locations you need to drill the plastic weld out. “Just the tip” you only need to break loose the top 1/16 to release the front plate. I used a 5/32 bit for reference. Gently separate the black plastic from the chrome
5 separated pieces
6 taped off and painted
7 reassembled
8 installed
9 installed

Reflective concepts has vinyl overlays in a decent array of colors too. I used them to color match (well...really close) my body paint

I tried the Reflective Concepts product, that was $16 wasted. Vinyl is supposed to take heat for adhesion. I live in the desert so heat I got plenty of that. Do not waste your money on it, too much of a PITA to use their product, straight garbage. Not even good vinyl, it is the trash vinyl.

To the OP, looks sharp and nice job.

I just used the Vinyl Overlay on mine:

Just ordered some JB Weld plastic weld putty, and ordered some touch up paint from Mopar parts. Not going to bother with that garbage vinyl that you can peel off with just rubbing your finger over it. Glad it just rubbed off as I wash my truck with a pressure washer, that garbage vinyl would not hold up to a pressure wash.

That’s weird, I have the reflective concepts on my grill badge and it holds up to 100+ degree heat and power washing just fine

Same. On my grill and hood badges. Washed and power washed a few dozen times. Looks great and has held up great.

Removing the backing was easy, get he vinyl in place easy, removing the front cover of the vinyl did not matter what angle it was pulling the vinyl off. Fresh wash and used alcohol on the area, so no anything was there to prohibit it from staying put. So in my opinion, the product is pure garbage and was a total waste of $16.

So the one thing I can say is that the install instructions are pretty bad and I didn’t listen to them one bit. I used scissors and tweezers, removed them from the backing and applied each letter/number individually. And I ordered 2 of each and definitely made mistakes.
