Like many others I am not a fan of chrome. I wanted black exhaust tips but spending 125 for a used OEM set or $400+ for aftermarket just was too much for me.
So while I was plastidipping the hood emblems I decided to give the exhaust tips a go. They looked ok at first but after a couple months looked like this and did not clean up well.

I knew powder coat or paint was the answer. But powder coat was $100. So I decided to paint. i haven been wanting to try two things: 1. Paint chrome 2.Try sand box sand in my blasting cabinet.
So I bought a bag of playground sand for $2.50 and blasted the chrome off. Couldn’t have been happier with the result.

Followed that by self etching primer, gloss black engine enamel, and gloss clear. All of which were $5-$6.

I am very happy with the final result. Spent less than $20 and looks great.
