DIY bed liner

Been thinking of doing my own bed liner. The duplicolor bed armor " roll on " application is looking good. ?????

Only two things you need worry about doing your own bed liner, surface preparation, and surface preparation. Probably better off letting a professional do it, in the end you wont save much money. Also chances are good it will peel or trap moisture unless you really focus on surface preparation

I wouldn’t diy roll its gonna look terrible and chip, if your going to diy prep prep prep! Is king and even then I would spray it not roll it. After its all said and done your better off spending the $500 and having Line X spray it for you and get that amazing warranty.

I have to check theres a company here where im at in san bernardino County who does it for 400 but i gotta figure out if hes using linex, raptir etc.

if you do go for it, get plastic drop cloth and frog tape from lowesdepot and tape everything off real well.

outside, or booth temperature matters. i dont remember the * but if its like below 70* or something it pretty much sucks.

i tried spraycan and roll on and had better luck with the roll on, but the kind of brush you use matters - foam will break down and get into the work. stuff like that.

id get a HFT sprayer and cut it with acetone or whatever it calls for and spray it on.

i bedlinered this monstrosity and its probably the strongest thing on the car now.



tbh i POR15 d the whole thing, and POR15 seam sealed all the holes and hacks with the POR15 goop in a tube and POR15 putty.
then i hit it with the bedliner

As everyone has said prep is key. Sand/scuff all parts you are lining until there is no shine. If you get to bare metal on any spots use self etching primer in that area and adhesion promoter is a good idea too.
Take a look at U-Pol Raptor Liner. They have a roll on but their spray in kit will give a much better finish. The kit comes with everything you need including the spray gun. All you need is a regulator and air compressor. I did this on my previous Chevy and will also be doing this to my Ram once it gets a bit warmer. It is a FULL days work but for $130 for the kit if done right produces professional results.

I went to a local shop and gave up the money. $600 for a short bed 5'7 rhino

I went with line x. Here in southeast NC it was $599 for the "premium" with uv protection. $499 with the standard line x.

I went with the premium, it looks better than if had applied myself I think. I know myself, and I suck at painting, so I probably would suck at the application of a liner product.

We did my sons F150 with the Rustoleum 2 part Epoxy system. It worked great and has held up flawlessly. It took us about 4 hours. https://5thgenrams.com/community/threads/rustoleum-roll-in-2-part-bedliner-installation.24386/ I would have done my new RAM, but the drop in bedliner was $149 installed and that's pretty cheap.

I compared our DIY to my sons 2020 Warlock factory spray in liner. All I can say is the Rustoleum is a little more pure black and looks less faded, but texture is very close. The bed has been heavily used since complete and no flaking or damage.

BedRug and be done with it, spray in bedliners don't offer much true protection anyway
