Digital Key setup 2025 Laramie

There was one occasion where I did exactly that to unlock the truck. However, keep in mind that when I walked up to the truck and pulled the door handle (several times) and nothing happened there was immediate frustration (borderline anger). Took me a minute but tapping the phone to the handle did work. I tried to do the same to start it but when I put the phone in the slot it wouldn't start so ended up using the key card, because well, I was extremely frustrated.

I did notice yesterday that after starting the truck (with key fob in my pocket) and putting the phone in the charger the screen popped up to add a phone as key, which is odd to me. Maybe the electronic key was deleted when that lousy 3 month subscription expired. Don't get why ram doesn't give at least a year. I have slightly over 3k miles and honestly, if it wasn't a huge financial loss I would get rid of this truck today.

Does your electronic key still show in the digital Wallet in your phone?

I have asked about this before and I am still curious for confirmation on whether SPAAK actually works without subscribing to the Assistance package for the RAM app/Uconnect. People have said it is SUPPOSED to work without a subscription.

But, I will not be surprised if it turns out that that is partially or completely false.

People posted that you have to have the subscription in order to setup the SPAAK but then it should continue to work if your subscription ends.

But, the way these things work in my iPhone Wallet is that they can be updated remotely. E.g. I added an airline boarding pass to my Wallet. The flight gate changes. My boarding pass that I downloaded gets updated automatically to show the new gate #.

My suspicion is that things in the Wallet can be updated remotely and that means they also (probably) have some kind of expiration. They (probably) have to sync with their mothership periodically in order to continue to work.

I mean, you wouldn't want to buy a used one of these trucks if the previous owner could keep their phone in Airplane mode and use it forever as a key to still access your truck, would you?

Which all begs the question: If the digital key does have an expiration date that is built into it when it's downloaded to your phone, then will you have to have an active subscription at the time the digital key goes to renew itself? Or will the key only work for a while with no subscription and then just stop working until such time as you activate a new subscription?

I looked and yes, the key still shows up in the phone wallet. Also can confirm that I was able to lock and unlock the truck with the phone in my pocket, but did not try to start it. I believe the fob was far away enough. Appears that although my subscription is expired the phone as key continues to work but as previously stated not reliably and therefore I carry the fob at all times.

Perhaps the lack of reliability is why they haven’t rolled it out to everyone yet. If it’s not reliable then I’d be carrying my fob everywhere too. That said I still wish they’d roll it out as there are times when I don’t have my key in my pocket and want to grab something out of my locked truck; would be nice to be able to most of the time just grab whatever and not have to go back upstairs for my key (although I’ll admit I do sometimes remember to just use the app to unlock the truck).

I have the key card that came with the truck in my wallet.

My plan for once SPAAK is enabled for me, I will use SPAAK and the NFC card in my wallet will be my backup.

It doesn't seem to me that I would have any reason to carry the actual key fob.

Initially, it was stated that having an active subscription was required for this feature. That was recently rescinded when they changed the Ram Connect plans.

Greetings everyone. I previously wrote that I have the phone as a key and can give some feedback. So far that feature has been very unreliable for me. Several times I've had to use the key card to get home because it wouldn't detect the phone. After that happened multiple times I started carrying the key fob again.

I share the same feelings as ramboy13, my first ram and so far lots of glitches, I have no power at the trailer plug, and to top it off, the transmission shifts like back in the days when we used to put shift kits on AODs. Highly disappointing.
This has been my experience with the truck as well. Including no power at the hitch.

If you experiment with it again I’d be curious if the digital key still works via NFC when it’s not detected passively. If you’re using an iPhone just pull up the key in the Wallet app, verify your passcode or FaceID, and tap the top of the phone in the same location you tap the backup key card.
This doesn’t work all the time unfortunately.

My trial recently ran out, and I thought with the changes to Ram Connect plans that you would still have the lock, unlock feature with the App. However I do not have those tiles available to me any longer.
