Digital Key setup 2025 Laramie

My understanding is you'll have to have a subscription in order to setup the digital key, but after that you will not. That said since we don't know what the final version will look like who knows...

I had to renew my subscription last week (I do use remote start from my phone extensively) and they're apparently in the process of changing the different packages etc. When I mentioned the lack of digital key I was offered a discount on my renewal. Would've amounted to either a free month if I went with the monthly plan or nearly 1/2 off with the yearly plan; I went yearly since I use it and will have it even after the digital key is available.

Maybe when they finally roll out digital keys they'll still be willing to give folks a free month of the app so you can enroll your phone for free.
I called RAM support and was told that I do NOT need a subscription to use the phone as key feature. Also that this is ready for “imminent release“. I joked with them about that, since that has been the case all year.
The phone support folks are awesome, friendly and helpful. I just wish they could activate the Digital key.

Agreed. This is getting beyond ridiculous. They need to be more open and honest about the time line. Got my (1st lemon) almost a year ago.

No new info on the phone as a key. However I did notice today that the Ram app was available to install on my android watch (Pixel Watch 3).

Picked up a Laramie few weeks ago in June (02/25 build). The phone as a key works (apple). I did have to call in order to create an account before I could set up the phone. After being asked some basic info such as first name, middle name, last name, email, tel number, favorite color, marital status, number of children, 401k balance, number of pets and shoe size the truck was ready for the key activation. Start the process from the trucks screen, put the phone in the charger (left side) and after a min or so the key was setup.

What I found so far is that's unreliable. Once the truck wouldn't recognize the key (not sure if it was the truck or the phone needed a reboot) and had to use the key card to start it and get home. Often it would think the phone was still inside the truck and couldn't lock the door, either from the outside or pushing the lock pin down...so I stood there like an idiot for about a min trying to lock the damn thing. Eventually it would figure out I was standing outside and lock. So I started carrying the keyfob again.

You didn't mention running the RAM app on your iPhone to pair it to the truck.

The RAM video on using a smartphone as a key is here:

It shows using the app and tapping the "digital key tile" in the app.

Did you do that? Or were you able to pair it some other way?

The problem I, and I think everyone else, have is that the "digital key tile" does not show up in the RAM app for me.

Also: What phone number did you call to get it to work?

Yes sir you’re correct, I failed to mention the app part. I had to use the app. My intent was to share that the phone as key works (although not all that well for me), but apparently not for everyone.
I did use the app as shown in that video, but don’t remember starting with the app. I think I started with the truck under “apps” setting and moved to the app, although it’s possible I’m just remembering incorrectly.
The number I called was to setup access to the truck via the app. During the process of signing up a number popped up and said to call. Don’t remember what it was. I assume it’s just the published number for uconnect.
Apologies if I caused any confusion.

No worries!

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some phone # I could call to get my ability to use the phone as a key turned on.

I already can "access" the truck from the RAM app. I can remote start it, etc.. But, I don't see a "digital key" tile showing.

Apparently, they turned on the phone at some point, at least for a few trucks. I guess you're one of the lucky ones. Then, they either turned it back off or just didn't ever turn it on for any more than the original batch.

Hopefully they will get it figured out soon!

My RAM app got an update. It went from 1.98.3 to 1.98.4.

But, still no digital key tile and no Vent button (which I think I've seen mention of before).

This is on an iPhone.

Ditto.

The vent option looks like it's part of the services they are bundling in one of the new connected services plans (i.e., Connect WiFI PLUS). When I saw the app version bump up a level, I was excited that maybe the digital key tile would be there. It wasn't. :(
It's funny that that they continue to advertise this feature, trying to make it a discriminator vs. other brands. And it's still not working....

I had the same excitement about a new app version.

But, I suspect that the feature is already in the app - thus why there are at least 2 people that we know of that have it working - and it won't take a new version in order to see the digital key tile. I suspect that it's something in the server back end that has to be changed - a virtual switch that has to be flipped, if you will - for the tile to start showing.

It is sad - to me - how a company as big, that has been around as long, as RAM can still be so bad at getting software right. I've been writing software for a living for over 40 years. I have worked for actual software companies and started a couple of software companies of my own. I have seen it SO many times.

So many companies do not have management that has any real clue of what it takes to produce and maintain good quality software. They look at software engineers just like they look at custodial staff. Hire 'em cheap and if one isn't doing a good job or quits, we'll just replace them with another one. "No big deal."

The company's management really has no clue on how to build and retain a team that can and actually does produce and maintain good, high-quality software. Which usually means they believe it can be done much more cheaply than it really can. Which ends up meaning that it takes longer than anyone estimated and what gets produced is ... suboptimal.

This issue with SPAAK is just another example from Stellantis. It has all the hallmarks of what I just described. Obviously, the hardware is all there. Every time I put my iPhone in the wireless charger it pops up a dialog box to add a digital key to my Apple Wallet. The NFC reader is there and works. Is there any other actual hardware needed (from Stellantis)?

The only thing keeping it from working is the software that is necessary. For the software to not be completely done and working well in production, this late in the game, tells me, either, the company has put almost-zero priority on it. I.e. nobody is REALLY working on it. Or the company is pushing hard on it but using crap management to do so. Most likely, simply refusing to pay what it costs for really good, competent software engineers and at least one software development manager that knows how to run a good team.

The resentment I have seen in the past from senior managers towards software developers because they view them the same as any other entry-level manual laborers, has been a recurring them in my career. These management types refuse to believe that any of them should be paid what it actually costs to get good ones. They refuse to recognize that there is any institutional knowledge that is truly valuable and needs to be retained, so they won't pay to keep the good ones after they get the initial delivery that they want. They think they can outsource to contractors and that that will be just as good. Because they are **** managers.

But I digress.... LOL!!!

Hopefully, that Digital Key tile will show up real soon now!! :D

Crash and burn. It will occasionally unlock the door but everything else freezes up the app. Tried clearing cache, reinstalling. Maybe someone else will have better luck.
It doesn’t work any better on the Apple Watch S5 that I have. Half the time it tells me I have no trucks registered.
