Diesel Gelling In Cold Weather

I was wondering if anyone knows why FCA says fuel additives are not needed in cold weather for the Ecodiesel? Is the fuel filter housing somehow heated?

I placed a gallon of diesel from the local truck stop in a clear plastic jug in my freezer at -15 F over the weekend and you could clearly see the paraffin wax cloud was about 25% of the total volume.
The I repeated the test using the labeled amount of Amsoil Cold Flow and the was cloud was nearly non-existent.

I have driven my truck in temps as low as -30c without issues using #1 diesel with anti gel additive.

And down to -20c without any additives.

no issue pump gas MN down to -30's Been driving a diesel in MN for 25 years with no additives in the winter. Really a gas station issue if you gel in a northern state.

The tank has a fuel preheater on the fuel pump

Thanks! I just now read it in the Diesel Supplement. I just wish I knew if the thermostat was operational when the vehicle was turned off.

• A 12 Volt heater built into the fuel filter housing aids in preventing fuel gelling. It is controlled by a built-in thermostat. • A Diesel Pre-Heat system both improves engine starting and reduces the amount of white smoke generated by a warming engine.

It depends on your diesel fuel supply. Most northern states will put a winter blend out at a certain time. (Date and location dependent, as I understand it.) Where I am now, in NC, it's rare to even see a cetane rating posted, let alone anything other than #2. Certainly no #1. (Piedmont region, coldest (rare) is in the teens. Normal lowest is in the 20s. F. Because 'Murica. ;) )
