Dang these safety sensors. Can we not back up these RAMs with the door open to look back?

I've tried to backup my Ram with the drivers side door open to simply move back a few inches hooking up a trailer and the dang thing keep's going into park. Can this be overridden?

I believe you can buckle the seatbelt behind you. Otherwise, no it can't be overridden. Thank the idiots who have run themselves over thinking the vehicle was in park when it wasn't.

My wife's old Cherokee did this (although the brake wouldn't come back on once you turned it off). It would annoy the **** out of me when I wanted to move back a few feet in the driveway.

I must say though, the backup camera is outstanding in my opinion when hooking up my trailer. I just get close, then hit the "enlarge" mode and feather it in the last foot or so, it's a one shot deal every time. I find no need to ever open the door to look back.

I found that when trying to back up with the door open, after it puts itself into park and sets the parking brake, I can hit the parking brake release twice and it will override the system and allow me to back up with the door open.

Thanks for the education guys. For those that asked I wasn't looking behind me where the backup camera would show but rather needed to look at the rear wheel alignment to back onto ramps.

SafeHold is a safety feature of the Electric Park
Brake System that will engage the park brake
automatically if the vehicle is left unsecured
while the ignition is in ON/RUN.
The park brake will automatically engage if all of
the following conditions are met:
 The vehicle is at a standstill.
 There is no attempt to depress the brake
pedal or accelerator pedal.
 The seat belt is unbuckled.
 The driver door is open.
SafeHold can be temporarily bypassed by
pushing the Electric Park Brake Switch while the
driver door is open. Once manually bypassed,
SafeHold will be enabled again once the vehicle
reaches 12 mph (20 km/h) or the ignition is
turned to the OFF position and back to ON
again.
