I drove home in my new Laramie on Friday night, it was after the dealerships closing time, and well past dark o’clock. I didn’t see any damage on the truck when I did a walk around. But, the next day, when looking again in daylight, there are 2 bad scrapes (for a new truck) on the bumper, and worse - appear to have been covered up with Black touch up paint (truck is Granite). There is also some discoloration on the black plastic above the right headlamp. I texted my sales person, and she is taking to mgmt tomorrow.

But, the dealer is about 2 hours from home, and I don’t have anyone to drive me. So, if they offer to fix there, and only there, it’s not like I could drive down and leave the truck with them for a few days to repaint the bumper. (I guess I could, with a loaner, but that’s a LOT of time). And I’m thinking the headlight would have to be replaced.

Any chance they will pay to have this repaired at a local dealership, or if I have to go to RamCares about it? It really pisssses me off that they knew about the damage, tried to,cover it up (badly) and didnt disclose it.

i imagine it depends if they have a body shop or not. if yes its unlikely they will pay someone else to.do it.
i.know you said your new laramie, dis you mean new to you or the truck is brand new?

also i think its works it to drive that 2 hours to get that fix and drive back with a loaner

why do you think the headlight would have to be.replace, what is wrong with them?

Brand new.. only had 30 miles when I took it.

this pic, the discoloration - it’s not a scrape, so I can’t buff it, it’s a flaw of some sort. Is the black piece at the top of the light replaceable? When I changed out my lights on my other truck,,this was part of the light.0236430C-6912-4138-A932-C62F973962D8.jpeg

wow they should of told you about all that damage..

dont think its part of the headlight, and this is paintable, so they should be able to fix it.

Downside of buying from a dealer that is not so local.....I wouldn't expect them to pay someone else to fix it. Not their fault you don't live around the corner.

That being said, unless it is a really really shady dealer, I'd imagine they will take care of this.

Thank you both…. Normally, would obviosuly had seen it.,but in the dark, unlit where Delivery took place, didn’t see it at all.. ugh.

crusher - guess you are right, maybe worth driving back if they would fix, but the $500 Uber ride home and back may disagree. Haha

If they will do it, yeah. It’s just a Huge pita to take time off work.

but - my question is more whether they Will do it, or not. If they offer to fix it all, and give me a loaner, thats all I can really ask at this point

Headlight piece can probably be ordered. The scuffs are minor I bet a good bodyshop can fill in the scuff and wetsand/buff it were its almost invisible rather then repainting the bumper.

At the very least they can provide a loaner for you since this is their screw up unless you can get them to agree (in writing) that they’ll reimburse you if you take it somewhere local to you to have it fixed instead.

I had lot damage on my new '19 Classic when I bought it. I noticed it the next day because it was dark when I finished the deal. It was a small dent below the passenger taillight. They took care of me, fixed the dent and gave me a loaner. What I didn't realize was that the damage was documented on Carfax as an accident even though it was lot damage. But I didn't know that until I traded it in. You might want to look into that. It could hurt trade in value down the line.

You broke the golden rule......never pick up a new vehicle in the dark. I ALWAYS look real close BEFORE I sign anything ar hand over any money. Now it's your problem. Good luck. Hopefully you have a good dealer who will fix it up for you.

I am looking for a small SUV for the wife. I could not believe the condition of some of the vehicles on the lot. One had scratches from a crazy buffer. Definate scratches because they caught your finger nail.

One thing to keep in mind before calling the dealer: The damage may not have been caused by them (or repaired by them). There have been a couple of instances that I've seen where it was shown that the damage/repair was done in the factory. And it is of similar quality to what you show.
It doesn't excuse the dealer for not seeing it and getting it taken care of before delivery to you. But I'd be careful accusing them of "covering it up" because that may not be the case.

Thanks. I’m just going to point out that it was clearly damaged, then someone painted it with different color touch up paint. I won’t make any direct accusations.

ask them for a loaner, tell them you need one

if not rent a car, there are some at 50$ a day..or less

It doesn't matter where the damage happened in the supply chain, they sold you a vehicle with obvious damage. That's on them 100% whether they caught it or not. It is doubtful that you will get a local dealer to do that work because it's not a RAM problem, it's a dealer problem. They should set you up with a loaner. If not, demand it.

I've had so many issues over the years with defects from the get-go. My first RAM had a loose transmission pan gasket. It was peeing tranny fluid out everywhere that I drove for the first day until I noticed it. An Acura that I bought had a defective rear window and my first Ford Ranger had major brake/rotor and other issues that eventually led to a lemon law buyback. My point is that these things are more common than we would like to believe. It sucks when it happens to us, but they should be prepared for it since they see it all of the time. The only question is how well they deal with the situation. Good luck.

I purchased a used BMW in 2019. The dealer repainted the front bumper due to stone and love bug damage. While they were at it, I asked if they could fix the front license plate holes that shouldn't have been drilled. They did all of it to the tune of a Carfax report on it. When I tried to sell it, the Carfax came back that there was paintwork done and the buyer was all concerned about an accident, etc. I really hate Carfax and I wish companies didn't sell service or related work to them. It feels like a personal violation.

They can also submit fraud accidents that never happened to the vehicle in question and there is nothing you can do about it as they are private companies.

ok, I know this doesn't help you at this point, and it's not to make you feel bad at all...it's really a point for everyone, ( most already know this, but it should be repeated every once in a while ). The proper way to inspect a new vehicle for body damage....you get that vehicle into an enclosed garage/shop/ building...make sure the lighting is strong. and flourescent...you ALSO bring a strong LED, or flourescent type flash light of the wand-bar type. You get REAL close to the body of the vehicle, like have your head about 3 inches from panels...and you SLOWLY walk down the side holding the light about 3-4 inches from the paint. Looking for any kind of color variance, sanding marks, chips, runs, sags, cracks., panel gap differences...etc. Then stand away from vehicle like 10 feet, and look at it from all 4 corners, and dead on front & rear. And don't forget to check the roof. Take pictures. Document anything you find.
